Except my Dad and I, my family is just a bunch of drunks. Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, I hate all them, but I still have to live at home until I finish school and can move out. No weekend, no party, no get-together, BBQ, without everyone around me drinking. My Dad is often travelling for work, so I'm many times alone with my step mother. Dad is away again this weekend, and the sister of my step mom was visiting. Of course they started boozing up as soon as they sat down on the couch. Both like to drink, but especially my (step-) aunt is a heavy drinker. I didn't want to spend time with them and listening to their stupid talks, but since the playstation is in the living room as well and I was playing my games, I kinda noticed that my aunt had around 8 to 10 glasses of wine, maybe even more. When she was ready to leave, I could tell she was pretty buzzed. I was pissed off and ready to bring her home, but she insisted on driving home by herselves. A bit back and forth, where I told her she is drunk, while she was laughing and claiming she is fine and did drive drunk already very often and is good at it, my stupid step mom, who had a few too much by herself, send her on the way and wished her a safe home. Around 30 minutes later, my aunt called to let us know she made it home safe (she lives only around 10 minutes away from us).
On Sunday, we are invited at her place for lunch. Her husband is a very good cook, but that means I will have to drive so that my step mom can get drunk again with her sister. I hate my family.
I am sorry your family behave like this. I know how dreadful it feels. Next time you know someone is drunk and attempting to drive could you call the police and inform their number plate, address and itinerary please? My cousin who was only 14 died in a car accident cause by a drunk driver and all the other people in the car had many injuries that changed their lives forever. Take care.

Kabafu...welcome to the board and your "other" family. We understand where you are at and what you are going thru as most of us have gone thru similar experience ourselves looking for change and then finding it here and in the Al-Anon Family Groups. You don't say how old you are and right now it doesn't matter much because you have found help for those who are affected by someone else's drinking. Keep reading and looking at the solutions which are offered in the shares here. There is hope and help for you. Keep coming back. ((((hugs))))

You're not alone. Many of us can relate to you, at least I know that I can. Stay strong. If you ever need someone to speak to or anything, please don't hesitate!

Please expand on why you feel YOU HAVE TO DRIVE. Actually, you don't have to give us an answer to that question but it is one that you should ask youself.
Welcome to Miracles in Progress ! I totally relate to your feelings as well as your environment. To be perfectly blunt with you, I also was the one who had to "take care" of some of my family members or so I thought. I didn't find alanon until my own child fell into addiction. He certainly wasn't raised thinking that was okay, we had family dinner nightly, my husband and i were very involved in his schooling, sports or anything he showed interest in. It just wasn't enough to stop him from turning to drugs, so I got here in my own recovery late in life. Through my own recovery I can see how my thought process and decision making was dysfunctional even though we didn't do drugs and rarely drank. My coping mechanisms I passed down we not terribly healthy. I never thought i needed recovery but i was sure blessed to finally make it. You are young and I would urge you to begin your recovery asap. The fact you are already seeing and understanding this disease puts you leaps and bounds ahead of the game. I would also as stated above "ask yourself why you feel you have to drive". and you don't have to share your answer here. Just think what is you didn't, what is you made plans for yourself that night? Again Welcome and I hope you keep coming back !
