In one week, more crap has gone wrong at work than I could ever imagine possible. I think I complained like a week ago...and it got worse. I know it is just work. I can compartmentalize it some. Most of my staff quit. I will be doing all their work in the meanwhile. PLUS about 3 other crazy incidents happened...one being the facility literally catching fire....still smells like smoke 4 days later. Then the air condiioner broke. Hi...this is south Florida. 90 degrees. And that is not even remotely all of it. I simply can't even put all of it in writing.
I had a fleeting thought...."man I need a drink." But I called my sponsor and cried like a little beyotch cuz that is what I'm supposed to do when my ass is on fire (that was a figure of speach. I realize my ass could have literally caught on fire this week....sigh).
I typed this out because I log in every morning and I know cyber hugs will start my day tomorrow cuz you guys are my people. What a day though...
Wow, your a$$ literally almost caught on fire. I've had some bad days at work, I've had some really bad days, but I think this has my worst day beat all to heck!
Bad timing for the AC too, my parents just left their annual winter vacation spot at the Everglades because the humidity starts to come up about now.
Special a$$- cooling prayers coming yiur way Mark!
You know how you always look terrible in your driver's license photo? (At least I do.) And you tell yourself, "Well, that was a bad day, I usually don't look like that."
But the other day I was in the DMV having my photo taken for my new license and I thought, "This is it! This is the day! Today I actually DO look like my driver's license!"
This is your day like that. When you think, "Everything is going to hit the fan at once and it is going to be crazy in an epic way and I will remember the outrageousness for the rest of my life and wonder how I survived something that insane, because it was unbelievably insane." Yep. That's this week. You're in the eye of the storm.
I know you've got the tools to withstand it and not to let it turn into quicksand. But if you ever feel like things are so crazy that you might reach for a drink, you have our permission to quit the job on the spot. Seriously. Right there, just go on home and veg out and then go sit by a pool somewhere. Because if serenity isn't possible at that job right now, then go where it is.
what doesn't kill you or cause you to drink makes you stronger. Walk ahead of it Pink and don't turn around to see how its doing. Been here before myself...its only a program test. HP and sponsor standing with you. ((((hugs))))
(((Mark))) Hope things settle down for you! Just don't do what I did - wish for time with no work to do nothing but veg (remember, I chopped off body parts to get that, no no no!) What doesn't kill us makes us stronger, right?

Big big cyber hugs to you my friend. Dont you dare go back to la la land your needed here in the real world. This too shall pass, your higher power is making sure you appreciate life with that little bit more gratitude. You have got this.x
Hope things improve quickly. I've been telling myself "first things first" during these crisis times, and though it sounds cliche, just doing the next right thing that I need to do. Hugs to you!
I don't know how many of us are old enough to remember the old Calgon soap commercials, but that's what I was thinking about when I read your post Mark. Glad you camera here, called your sponsor, stood up and dusted off (your a$$ from being on fire?!).
The last time my ass was on fire, it involved some kind of peppers, but that's another story...
Sounds like you're having one of those weeks where the crapwagon broke down in your lane. Prayers sent that HP shows you a way out, around, and/or through.
What comes to mind is life still is life, even if we're in recovery. When the Sh*t hits the fan, just don't turn it on. That way you don't make a bigger mess. In Recovery we will hit speed bumps along our journey. These problems are temporary and will pass. Each of these speed bumps is an opportunity for Spritual growth and Character building. God is testing your Serenity, show him you're up to the task. Humility, Acceptance and Faith!
When I would bring things like this to my Sponsor, he would say things like: you have a job? your job pays you? you live in S. Florida? you are sober? etc... He would put it back into perspective for me.
Hi Mark Glad you reached out .The slogan"This too will pass" and How important is it ?" worked for me at times like this. I had a few months where my staff resigned and I was it Some how, one day at a time, staying in the moment and doing the next right thing it worked out and a new staff materialized.
I know that you know that only one thing you do not need is a "drink."
Here are some Hugs, positive thought and prayers. Remember HP walks before you in all these situations.
Thank you all so much. I am crying now writing this and so anxious and dreading going to work and I obtained a splitting headache last night that didn't go away....didn't sleep well. I feel like I'm about to walk into a s##t storm and I don't know when the next day off I will have in the near future will be.
I feel for you Pink. Trust your HP to help you
With this. Just hand it over and do the next best
thing, One foot in front of the other. Let it go
And relax. Your HP has your back.
With Kenny, I'm sending you magically ass-cooling hugs. haha that was a good one, Kenny.
Mark, when my head hurts I'm completely diminished. Do you let yourself take pain killers? Coffee? If no, what about accu-pressure or tapping? Yoga and stretching puts me in a better space.
When my staff was reduced, I found in retrospect it was easier for me to prioritize. Some of the stuff can wait.
My money's on you. Keep your sponsor on speed-dial. Let us know how it goes.
I think you know the drill because I sure do. Stress at work is the pits so when it happens we have to just take on one task at a time...complete it and move on. Your head will explode if you try and do it all at once. There's nothing you can do fix it in a instant just like all of us know so step back and take it one task at a time. After it's all said and done.....your back to normal with a smile on your face.
PS: Being the boss is not all it's cracked up to be LOL....
(((( HUGS ))))

Cyber hugs to you, Mark. I really appreciate what you do, both on this site and for your paying job. You can only do what you can do, so relax and plug away one task at a time.
Well, when my ass is on fire I tend to move through stuff faster......probably didn't help you at all, though, LOL
Hugs to you, I hope things settle down and you get a break at some point. I hate it when it feels like everything is going wrong and there isn't an end in sight.

Nothing all that great happened today except I dealt with it. No real resolution but dealing with stuff is better than thinking about it and worrying about it.
I missed this, but am hoping things are getting better in your world! I know what it means to be short staffed thank God I only work weekends and get a break (yeah right) at school all week, but at least it is a change of scenery! You have a great program and when it all hits the fan you called your sponsor and took the next right step. Sending you love and support!

It is a bit better this week. I hired one and am about to hire another. We have some consequences from some of the things that happened last week as a facility but I think we will rebound. I like hiring on new people, but because it's a juvenile facility, I have to wait a long time on background checks and then they have to be trained in how to restrain the kids if they have to before they are allowed on the floor working.
