You know how you can read something over and over and hear it over and over but you dont quite get it? Well, ive only just come to realise that alcoholism is a family disease!!! Its taken me 3 years for that one to penetrate. This program just keeps giving me more and more. I was listening to aa speakers on you tube, as you do!!! and a man described it in a way that gave me an aha moment. The disease of alcoholism affects families so much that alcohol or alcoholics dont even have to be present. So we pretty much all qualify. So even if parents werent alcoholics, if their parents or grandparents were then the disease keeps trickling down the generations and the disease is a tbinking disease that we can be programmed with and it seems to infect most of society. Some folks effected turn to drink others turn to drinkers but we had the same disease to begin with. I never seen this before, im a bit amazed because its changing my perspective of my relatiknship with my ex. I thought he was my qualifier but i was infected with the disease of alcoholism from the start through my own family even though i never actually lived with a drunk person. Then him and i were like magnets, he saw in me himself and i saw myself in him. This is starting to sound mental. This was always gojng to be the way for me. If it wasnt him it would have been another just as unhealthy. I would never have cooed with healthy, far too alien for me. Thanks for reading my ramblings, tell me if you relate.
Alcohol seems like such a social thing, until it changes your personality, then gets integrated in your genes and your family picks up on it and who knows why any one else gets affected by it as they do. My partner drinks like at least 5 days a week, and before did even more, i participated with him cause I thought it would bring us closer. But it brought out the worst in us. I myself find it hard to stop and see how my personality changes when I drink. I am afraid of how I can't make sense of things when I drink. My grandpa died same year I was born due to too much alcohol and smokes. My other grandpa drank a lot too. My dad still drinks lots. My mom used to but stopped. Me, I don't know I just want to have a safe physically and emotionally okay relationship. Has this substance really prohibited me from even knowing what that i cause my genes attract me to it and to people with behaviours that resemble it. aggghh this sucks
Great awareness and acceptance LC I found thatonce I began to see all the" isms' within myself I had more compassion a nd understanding for the alcoholic. Alcoholis just the outward maifestation of the inner "isms ". I had other outer manifestations of the disease. so as you said --
It is a family diseasea and the solution is alanon and AA. Thanks HP
