Starting a pre-cancerous skin treatment

Hi all,

My dermatologist said that I have pre-cancerous cells on my face. She has prescribed a 3-4 week long treatment that will turn my face red, itch, bleed, be painful, and scab over. I will look pretty ugly.  I will share this with my students so I won't shock them but also to let them know that you should take care of yourself. My friends have been very supportive and my supervisor. My A has amputated our relationship so we only have 5 minute phone calls guaranteeing that we don't have a chance at an emotional conversation. I have given up on trying to tell him news about our sons and family etc. So there has been no chance to talk about what I will be going through with this treatment. Whenever I try to breach a subject of trying to get along better or establishing some kind of new relationship he bombs me with things like he will be looking for someone else soon to hug. So I will have to go this alone. I just hate "walking on eggshells" around my A. Sober he may be but he sure controls the environment. In one of my recovery books, it said that you have to literally do nothing and say nothing to pull yourself out of the relationship and not control and manipulate. This just seems like an opportunity to do just that. The saving grace of this treatment is that I might be so miserable that I won't have time to worry about my A.

Thanks for listening.

Nancy

My neighbor just did this.  It is like a bad sun burn which itches and peels.  I had skin cancer surgery just 6 months ago.  Took a plug out of my temple about the size of a pepsi bottle cap.  Do the scrub... They are doing great things with getting rid of these pre-cancerous cells.

At least you don't shave your face... he had the most trouble with his beard growing out and being to uncomfortable to shave.

Be strong... it is very temporary.

One other thought for you is pre-cancerous cells are very common.  Don't dispair that you have been hit with the "C" bomb.  Many of these would never become life threatening even if left untreated.  With treatement, consider it something you just don't have to worry about any more.  Get checked frequently (every few months) and use the creams they will give you.

If you want to talk about that some more, shoot me a PM.  Be glad to share with you what I know.

Take care...
