I liked today's reading as it compliments my program of recovery very well.
It talks about how not being hard on ourselves - and putting something up on the shelf for a while and even having a laugh or some fun - can help is come back to our problems refreshed.
Aaaaaahhhhh.
this is perfect for me, as sometimes the Higher Power wakes me up with something She wants me to see - and this morning it was how absolutely criticizing I am of myself - and how I take on others' criticism of me to such an extent we all beat me up.
People are people and if I want to teach people how to treat me I have to be gentle with myself.
I also liked how it says that a little joy can offset tons of grief. This is how recovery can be for me: work on myself and look at some pain and grow, then have a break for gratitude and a smile, a concert or walk or art museum, then return to the work.
Isnt that just how life is, when you're being responsible for yourself and your mark on the world?
Deprivation is something I grew up with and Change for me includes allowing myself to enjoy God's world. After all, I know that's part of His will.
Great topic. I have to learn how to be gentle with myself, so this is perfect. I've been reading the slogans in How Alanon Works, and it's reminding me to slow down and get off my case. Thanks for sharing.
Being gentle with myself has always been difficult for me. If I made mistakes, I was so hard on myself!!! This is definitely a wonderful topic and so happy that Al-Anon's steps have lead me to see how wrong it is to be hard on oneself because no one can see or make the changes in their perception and thought process in order to grow, if they are beating themselves up. {{HUGS}}

Great topic! I too use to be hard on myself now with
My grieving, trauma and recovery work i am being
very gentle with Myself.
I find if i try to push myself before i am ready I would get
anxious and stress. So i just keep cocooning myself As i am
doing my recovery work. Facing hard truths and Processing
them are hard enough. Some things i mull over For awhile
others i can let go of.
I take little pleasures as i can get them. Not enough fun in
My life right now but my divorce has taken so much simple
Joy out of me and my life. It too shall pass.
