This was the topic in my Friday night face to face meeting.
The leader of the meeting had an eloquent share and then we all shared
This weekend I watched my 3 nephews while my brother and his wife spent a romantic weekend in Florida.
They are teenagers, 12, 14, and 16.
I have 4 pages of instructions
I drove to my brother’s house 2 hours away from me down the New Jersey shore.
I have never been to his house.
I followed the instructions and mainly the children stayed in the basement playing games on the internet on the computers my brother has hooked up for them.
After dinner last night one of them brought his trumpet into the kitchen where I was and played the trumpet well, explained the music and we talked.
Another was up early Sunday, he helped me clear the snow off my truck and we put the truck in 4x4 mode and went to get egg sandwhiches. He made himself a coffee, he is 12.
Then all disappeared again. I suggested going to the movies as the weather was snowy. One nephew took me up on it, one had a friend over and the 16 year old went and shoveled the neighbors driveways and made $70.
Then this nephew needed to go here and that one there, and I’m handing out cell phones, and taking notes and finally, over dinner with them start sharing about me, and they shared about them.
And I never visited my brothers house before
Invited over the last 16 years many many times, but I isolated myself from everyone and the reality of my marriage to an abusive controlling alcohollic
Thank-you MIP and alanon and my support system and my HP whom I call God.

If you want things you never had you need to do things you have never done
What an awesome post. I don't know if we isolate ourselves consciously or subconciously, but either way we lose out don't we. Here's to getting to know your nephews better!!!
((((Megan)))) all tweens and teenagers need that "cool" aunt and I bet you're the best!
I'm so happy for you that you had this awesome experience and opened the door for others. Wonder how long it will be before the 3 are calling to come spend the weekend with Auntie Meg???
