The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
Of course the other two daily readers, One Day at a Time in Al-Anon and Hope for Today are both good! How Al-Anon Works would be my recommendation....Great book! Al-Anon's 12 Steps and 12 Traditions is another goody!
Paths to Recovery....lol...honestly Barbara...they are all great!
I'm not that big on the daily readers, to tell you the truth. I'd go for "How it Works" and "In all our Affairs". If you grew up in an alcoholic family, or in a family with any disfunction, really, "From Survival to Recovery" is very good. "The Dilemma of the Alcoholic Marriage" is a little dated in its language and assumptions, but right on in its advice and insight.
I don't know if I'd reccomend this as a "second" book to get. But it sure is a good one - As We Understood. It is not a daily reading but is the size of the ODAT and full of stories on coming to find our HP and healing with His will in mind.
Just want to add - try the magazine The Forum. It comes in a plain wrapper, (it's quite small, about 7" X 5") and cheap. Call 757 563-1600 for subscripton info. or write to 1600 Corporate Landing Parkway VirginiaBeach VA 23454-5617 This is packed with short good stuff to read.
You can also get most alanon books from your public library - and let me tell you, there is something very liberating about walking up to the counter with a bunch of alanon books under your arm, especially if you live in a small town. You realize that you can set that "keeping up appearances" burden DOWN.
