trying to get out of a slump and get more positive

How do you pull yourself out of a slump? I just read Courage to Change "Let Go and Let God". Found a few readings helpful. How do you change your attitude? Physically Im starting to feel better. Spiritually I know my brother is in Gods hands.

There's something coming up in my life in March that Im usually very very excited about. I need to get that excitement back.

For me it is to get out of the house - go window shopping, visit a friend, walk the dog, read a book or have a laugh with my children. Sometimes it is tough, and we need to learn that our feelings are our feelings and they do have value.

And then there's my old favourite - fake it 'til you make it. It really does work!

Stay strong

For me I just have to muddle through it.  I try to force myself to focus on something else.  Reading the posts here always help me to keep my problems in perspective.  Because I don't have an active A in my house right now it is easier for me.  Still I have those days when I just want to pull the covers over my head and cry.  In a few days usually after I have wasted my weekend I pull out of it.  Count your blessings and write them down.  Soon you will see that everyday has a purpose.

Hope u feel better!

May sound corny, but I ask myself what Step do I need to look at and study?   Then I read up on that step.  If I cannot figure out which step, I usually start with Step one and work up, saying yeah, I got it, so on to the next one --until I find the error/distortion in my thinking.

I may even attend an open AA meeting where they talk about which Step was vital to them in their recovery, and Bingo!  That's the step I need to study!   Even calling an alanon person, I find they are in the same kind of slump 20-30 miles away!  God/HP works through other people.

But then, when I find what I am looking for and I am back on track, I have to "give it away" and I get better.

Just the way program has worked for me!

Hi Barbara,

When I need to get out of a slump I usually have to get busy, get out of the house, take a walk, do something really extravagent for myself.

I retreat sometimes and read my Bible. I put on favorite music. Just get on with the business of pampering me.

Sometimes it involves turning something over to God and letting go of it once and for all, then I will feel a new sense of freedom and a burden lifted.

Hang in there and Stay Strong.

For me was just getting out of the house, doing things that I used to to enjoy. Sitting at home for me day in and day out only fueled the lonliness and the bitterness and the stinking thinking of the not so happy times in my life. When I start feeling that way even tho I dont want to in most cases and it is much easier to sit at home , I MAKE MYSELF get up , have a shower,,and go out! By the time I get home, I am refreshed, and enjoy the thought that I have a home to come to, and most importantly I have a different frame of mind. Going to an alanon meeting helps as well tremendously it gives you that strength to go on! Keep coming back it works if you work it and YOU are worth it!
