Campral

My A is taking Campral now.  It is completely new to me...something I've never heard of before.  But it is supposed to help alcoholics overcome their dependency.  Anyone else had any experience with it?

My A was on Campral for a time. He found it made him feel  mildly but constantly nauseas.

I had high hopes for this (then) new medication. I believe it is to assist with the cravings after intial withdrawal from alcohol. But my A gave up taking it and continued to drink as before.

I did some research and it is recommended to be used in conjuction with long term intensive therapy. Of course, my A went nowhere near a therapist or counsellor. He was hoping for a miracle cure that would take no effort on his part.

So not good news from me, but I wish you and your A all the best. Everyone is different, so hopefully the medication will be of benefit to your A.

My husband tried Campral as well. I definately believe Campral can help alot IF a really wants to quit drinking. Just remember, if he's not working a program and wanting to be sober NOTHING will work.

I'm not sure why my husband even tried it because he doesn't want to be in recovery. He stayed on the Campral for two weeks and said that he thought it was helping, but starting drinking again after the fifth day.

Well, luckily for me my A isn't just looking for some miracle cure.  He goes to AA meetings at least twice a week and sometimes more if his schedule allows it.  He's just been having a hard time lately now that he is back in school and I'm hoping that Campral will help him out a little bit.  I know how stressful school can be because I'm a student as well, but I can't imagine what it would be like for an A.  Anyway, I'll let you guys know how it goes!  :)
