A daughter's dog doing better :)

Just an update to let you know Burton, 7 month old mixed lab breed is doing better. He still cannot move his back legs but some feeling is coming back. They are doing physical therapy with him to get some weight on his 4 legs. It is good for me to visit him by getting me out of the house to go see him. I try to keep my hand/hands on him for the entire time I am there to have that human touch on him. I talk with him for that loving human voice sound and perk him up with fun expressions on my face :)  I think he is actually more therapeutic to me than I am for him. LOL. They said he is not very happy being there and lays way back in his pen. I never knew I would be such a dog lover but I guess I now am.

Afterall, he also seems to be a gaurdian angel to my recoverying alcoholic daughter who is doing extremely well these days. He is the first thing on my gratitude list now a days. I just never realized how much he meant to my daughter until he got run over. What a huge lesson in life I am learning this week. Thanks for all the prayers for Burton and for us too. Miracles come in all shapes and sizes, I guess and this sure seems like a huge miracle for our family. cdb :)

So glad to hear he's doing good cdb and good to see you again!!!  I have one of our dogs recuperating too from gettin into a fight with the other dog here.  She had a couple gashes in her belly (off to side) and had to have surgery.... so she's my little conehead right now.  should be getting stitches out friday...that was supposed to happen last friday but she had pulled one stitch out (hence the cone now) and that hole wasn't healed up enough so vet decided to give it another week.  I applied for Care Credit while at the emergency vet hospital, that helped with part of the bill, its a credit card interest free.  Had to take care of her though, she's son's dog who is in army.  And she's a sweetie.  I totally agree with ya, pets can be wonderful and healing for us!!

Luv, Kis

Hello Kis,

So nice hearing from you and sorry about your dog too. They didn't have that care credit at this vets :( WE checked everything out. Being he is a puppy he must have a better chance than an older dog. He has alot of staples in his leg now :( WE just hope he does get his feeling back in both legs and will walk again. Time will tell. I have been thinking of you and your son in the army. (your whole family actually) I just went to a wedding in Minnesota with my parents and the bride had to go to Iraq. That is why they got married when it was icy and snowy out. My parents even went into the ditch on the way to my house! Thankfully they were not hurt but pretty shook up. This bride will train for one month and then is off to Iraq. Again, it is nice hearing from you. cdb :)

(((((( CDB )))))))

As an RMT, the touching daily will help the nerves heal faster, even if you barely touch his legs like a feather touch.  Also animals respond very well to aura stroking ~ u just keep your fingers about 2 or 3" away from the body & rake over him.  You are healing each other, God works in mysterious & simple ways.

Sorry to hear about ur poor parents, must have given them both a good scare.  Hope they are well, hang in there, I know you have a lot on your plate...  just remember you are number one!  Be kind and gentle to yourself, dear heart.

love, -K

Hi cdb, nice to see you back

I know where you are coming from with the animal connection too- I cannot remember what year it happened, but our beautiful and intelligent Border Collie we got for FREE when I was about 12 years old (from a nice lady who had severe allergies and could not keep him anymore ) was either hit by a car or actually shot at by someone, I cannot remember now.  We used to let him roam all over the neighborhood at night (real bad idea nowadays).  Somehow he made it back home where my mom immediately took him down the street to the local vet which fortunately was only about five blocks away.  He needed to get a steel rod inserted in his back leg which was pricey surgery, but our dog meant so much to us my parents went ahead and had it done.  Needless to say he couldn't jump as high anymore to catch frisbees (his favorite trick) but he still did.  So from a personal standpoint he totally understand when people say how much their animals mean to them- like a part of the family.  We had him for another 12 years as far as I remember.  Wish I could have another dog now, I really miss having one around.

CDB, so glad to see you again!!!

I know my dog is one of my most powerful tools of recovery and teaches me lessons all the time--  he tolerates my command-giving and caretaking with acceptance and forgiveness, he lives in the moment, and he loves me where I am, just as I am, in the way that I want to learn to love myself and others--unconditionally.

(That being said, he is not speaking to me right this second because I just cleaned his ears, but that will blow over in a half hour and he will be back trying to sit his 71 pound waggy tail on my lap.)

Enjoy your daughter's dog and the recovery process, both his and yours!

Welcome back, and I will see you soon.

Love,

Emmie

Great news and nice of you to update us.

We have two dogs. One is what you love in dogs. Uncoditional love.

The other reminds me of my A. Must have been abused as a puppy (he was a rescue). Has never trusted me. What trust I did build came from hours rolling on the floor with him interacting with him at his level. Now he suffers health problems as well. The combination of siezures and medicine make in not listen and he will steal anything he can get his hands on.

I say this not to take my A's inventory, but for my own. He reminds me so much of the take everything give little of my A, and his possible abuse, his illnesses, that I transfer much of my feelings towards the A towards him. When he steals, he knows I'm pissed. You can just look at him and see the look of guilt on his face when he just 'thinks' of taking something. I do express my frustration with him on occasion, saying how he is a family leech, taking and not giving. Truth be told, that is how I feel about the A. He is a being with an illness. Heck he doesn't even have alcohol or 'catnip' to numb. I should be more compassionate but it's just hard because it's like my A staring me in my face.

Weird huh?

Bob

Our HP does move in mysterious ways, and this may be a way to get you and your daughter closer, and her to focus on her pet, I am a pet lover too. Dogs can really feel a human's touch both physically and emotionally and this attention will help him to heal faster too. When we were first married, my husbands terrier was hit by a car too, she shouldn't have been running around the neighborhood either...a neighbor across the street had told the dog to go home, and she did, ran across right in front of a truck. the kids in the neighborhood saw it too, and it was a gruesome sight..her injury was to her head, and face...we didnt think she would live the nite, so my husband brought her home..she was unconsious, and layed her on blankets and we watched her all nite...we went to sleep eventually, and the next day, conni, was up running around, extremely sore, but healthy. She lived a long life afterward, with a slight "dent" in the side of her head, a few missing teeth, and a constantly weepy eye, but otherwise ornery as can be. We have a cat, now, who has a disease that is progresssing, and we know we should have her put down..but keep putting it off...I can hardly look at her now..its pains me so...How much love we put into these creatures of comfort God gives us....Prayers go out for you and your daughter, the healing of the dog and your relationship throughout all this...! big HUGS, kat

My siamese Benny was notorious of eating stuff he shouldn't. He ate some of my houseplants and eventually ended up with pancreatitis had to go to the vet which cost me a fortune. I eventually took him home and nursed him myself. He adores the A sleeps in the crook of his arm, rubs his head against him and calls to him. I find such solace in my pets.  At the same time I know they are one of things that tie me to the A so it is a mixed bag. I will miss his dog when i do leave him at the same time I will sometime leave and probably not have contact with the dog. So I try to make the most of the time I do have with her so that I have loving memories.

Thank you so much for your kind compassionate replies,

I do love to massage burton and will try that other method tomorrow kitty :) I saw that they do accupuncture at the vets, but too bad it costs money :(  I would feel better if he were moving his back legs at all. I imagine they hurt so badly after having the muscles torn off! Ouch! I was brought up where you would just put a pet to sleep and not pay the money to cure or save them. I remember one of our dogs had puppies and the runt was not doing well. My dad had a friend who took the runt and shot it in the head to kill it! I begged and begged for them not to take the runt and said I would feed it a bottle and take care of it but they didn't listen to me. I felt so helpless and so very upset by this. I am gaining a new love for a different kind of care for pets now and see how very healing and helpful they are to us! IN my daughter's inpatient treatment center they had pets and one cute little weaner dog named sophie would sleep with her every night. That comforted her and not long after that is when she got a dog for herself (burton) that someone was giving away. I sure see how healing animals are now and have an entirely different perspective! Thanks again for your kind words. cdb xoxoxoxoxox

Ow, poor dog, he probably is in a lot of pain, and it is difficult for him to try out those newly repaired legs. He will in time, he is in a place, hes not used to, in a condition, he doesn't understand. Maybe once he gets home, he will feel a little more like trying to "walk around". The therapy will do him good. I am glad it turned out so well. And that he makes a full recovery. I think dogs love us, unconditionally, that's too why As respond so well to animals. No judgement, no arguments, pets just love , for no reason, except they accept and want to love. There is a lot to be said for that, and a good example to go by. When my not-so little calico cat, suki, jumps on my bed, lays next to me..purrs as loud as can be..I feel real love. She sometimes "licks" my arm..yuk, little pointy cat tongue...but she is showing me her affection. And always in a down time, its nice to have that warm bundle of fur. Wishing a speedy recovery for Burton and his family...take care. kat
