I'm neither JMR or OP-John but you can try this. I neither know our particular irc client or macs but you can check these settings.

Have you entered this server?

irc.mipchat.net

If that doesn't work how about

gromit.jmrtech.net

the room name is the same to join #alanonchat

This may work:

1) Open up mIRC and click on the hammer icon so that you are in mIRC Options.

2) On the right you will see four buttons. Click on the top one, "Add".

3) For Description enter "MIP Chat", for IRC Server enter "irc.mipchat.net", for Port(s) enter 7000, for Group enter "MIPchat".

4) Click on "OK" at the bottom.

That's it, you're done.

I prefer people use "irc.mipchat.net" rather than the other address, as it will be easier to move this next time around if that becomes necessary if it points to a symbolic address rather than an actual physical server.
