Tis the season for alanoners?

Just curious.  I'm noticing that I'm seeing an influx of people here and also at my meetings recently.  A combination of both newbies, returnees, and active alanoners from other meetings.

Is right after the holidays typical a time where so many have had to deal w/ the alcohol trifecta of holidays that they are hitting bottoms?

Nothing pressing, just curious if this is part of the dynamics of the ism's and our disease as well.  It's great to see so many new faces and names.

Good question Bump! Maybe after the chaos of the holidays, we are finally able to start focusing on ourselves again. Maybe the holidays masked or just delayed our healing process. For me it was the crazy hours of retail, plus all the regular demands that go with the holidays. Who knows? I'm looking foward to reading the responses. Thanks for asking!

Live strong,
Karilynn (H)

Well for me, the season brought about alot of new changes in my life. MyA mother and father finally spliting up after years of chaos, my A mother finding a new man, returning to drinking and pills and men!
I finally realized I could not handle this alone anymore and I went to find help for ME!
Thank God I found it here....I will be forever thankful!

i am here b/c of what happened over of the holidays. my A dad passed out during thanksgiving dinner (that i spent all day on). then 2 days later he had a stroke and seizure alcohol induced. luckily he was ok. then xmas he was fine, and the day after was drinking again. you would think that almost dying would sober you up. he has had 3 strokes, seizures, and lost his family-what else does he have to lose besides his life (or what's left of it). so for the new year i made 2 promises=1: take care of myself (going to the gym 4 times a week--i'm on track so far) and 2: stop letting him control my life, so i sought out answers and found this site.

i think the holidays bring out the worst in A., but for the rest of us, it can be a wake up call. my spirits are up. i still feel crappy about my dad, but i am trying to be me (not just his daughter). my only advice for everyone is BE YOU!

My reason is similar to Karilynn's.  In my case, nothing out of the ordinary happened over the holiday's.

I first began al anon last spring and really wasn't taking it seriously.  By the end of the year I knew I needed to truly take care of myself and al anon needed to be part of it.  So, New Year's resolution???  I set my goal to throw myself into my own program starting the beginning of 2006.  I also wanted to get over the holiday's as well as start my year off on the right foot.

Interesting question!  Thanks, Michelle

Hi Bob,

I know myslef, I come in and out of the board, based on the amount of time I have available to me and what is going on in my life.

Sometimes the most productive thing I can do read books and literature, or even the Bible. Sometimes I sit and read the boards and other times I post.

I think after the Holidays people tend to wind down and look at their lives. They set new goals for themsleves and the dreariness of the upcoming months can get to any of us.

We all do what we have to to survive and be happy in this world.

I too have noticed a lot of new names and am very happy they have found us.

I absolutely believe it is tied to the holidays. I also think it is tied to the weather :o) I noticed this past summer that the meetings were a lot thinner until September rolled around. I get a little down when the numbers are down in the meetings so it is awesome to see all the new faces. It also provides me with an opportunity to see how much I have grown by sticking it out day to day!
