Does anyone know?

Hi all,

I just got back from a f2f meeting and after the meeting was over they started talking about Dr. Phil which led to Orpah which led to James Frey and that book A Million Little Pieces. Well apparently he lied in the book.

I have never read it before, but I remember someone posting about if her could do it without the 12 steps then why can't we. Well as I said I haven't read it, and I don't know what all he lied about, but apparently that book wasn't as non-fiction as it was claimed to be.

I still think we all need to find what works for us, and I am so happy that I found alanon.

Much Love,

Oh yeah, its been all over the news.  Here is a website I was looking at earlier today...The Smoking Gun... they did a lot of research/investigating on all the claims Frey made...interesting read.  Makes ya wonder, if he lied about some of it, what else might he lie about?

Ouch.

I am always skeptical about Oprah's book picks.  I know people love Oprah but she and I like books for very different reasons, and tend to like very different books.  I was wondering why she liked this one, and it's probably because it is emotionally manipulative (and also, from the sound of things, not factually accurate.)

It's possible that it still offers a look inside the mind of the addict (the lying is consistent if you look at it that way) -- but plenty other things do as well.

You want my advice, skip the book and go see Walk The Line if it's still playing around you.  :)

As it turns out, it IS a work of fiction; not non-fiction as he led the readers to believe. The irony of it all is that he has made a fortune from Oprah's endorsement of it, and now, with all the publicity it has generated, he is making even more money. Something seems wrong with that picture. From now on, I will take Oprah's recommendations with the proverbial grain of salt! Diva

Ooops, I forgot to say...
Whether or not a person solves his/her addiction problems without a program is entirely personal. Some people attend AA, AlAnon, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Gamblers Anonymous, Overeater Anonymous. Others wear nicotine patches, chew nicotine gum, or have themselves hypnotized. All in hopes of fighting their addictions successfully. Others go cold turkey and make it just fine. For me to say that no one can beat alcoholism without AA is ludicrous. Of course they can. For me to say that these organizations have no merit is also ludicrous. Each individual does what is right for him/her. However they manage to beat it is all right with me.

Best regards, Diva
