2006 The year of CHANGE

It is hard to believe that it is 2006. 2005 was a very difficult year. In many ways, I was sick and needed surgery, my husband ( an alcoholic ) and I seperated twice, and my job has become more stressful than ever. I can say that in 2005 I began finding myself. In July I found this site and began working on me thru the ALANON steps. I started going to meetings, working on me and reading more than ever about a disease that had taken control of me and my family. I learned, that I have a problem just as my husband does. I am very co-dependent.. I am as addicted to my husband as he is to drinking.
Why else do we continue to love someone who lies to us and continues to hurt us over and over? I use to blame him, just as much as he blamed me for his drinking. Now, I say it is a disease, one that he cant control without help.. Somedays he acknowledges his problem others he is in denial.

My resolution.. I have named 2006 the year of CHANGE.. Not for my husband but for ME. I am going to continue to work on me using all of the tools that I have learned. I am not perfect by no means but I have come so far on this walk, yet have so far to go. For all of you new to this web site and new to ALANON I say.....
KEEP COMING BACK, it works if you work it.. !! Focus on you not on the alcoholic. Try to remember that the 3 C's that we learn in alanon..

You didnt cause it
You cant control it
You cant CURE it.
I use to think that I could but thanks to ALANON I know now that I cant..

For 2006, I will keep taking steps.. Steps that will lead me to serenity.

Thanks to all of you who have given so much to me in 2005.. Please dont stop.. I will need you in 2006 more than ever..

Tammy

Tammy,

So happy to hear about your progress. Hadn't seen you in the room or on the board lately. Keep at the great work.

Tammy,

You will have company on making changes for 2006. I too am addicted to my husband and am I ready to give that up. The Alanon tools are great and I have found that I wasn't doing that great on my own.

Keep coming back. It works.

In support,

Nancy
