to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
I would dread "Just for today" and tell myself I only needed to make it through tath day. When I struggled I would call my sponsor. Thank goodness she was available. I called her many times.
As I became stronger, I practiced other suggestions on the Just for Today card. I love that piece of literature because it helped me to keep the focus on myself. When I focussed my energy on myself rather than on my former husband, I had more time for the project that I was trying to do.
Several things changed in my life when I focussed on myself. I reduced my mental exhuastion, felt physically stronger and my hunger returned, I paind more attention to what I needed, I slept alot better, excelled at my job and my self -esteem increased.
It was funny to me now that I experienced all those changes, I told myself "Just for Today" I will try and live through this day only.....one day at a time, So many years ago I struggled to understand how I could live my life a day at a time ,,,,and now I was already doing it.
Just for today I will live one day only and not try to solve the whole problem of life at once.
Just for today I will be unafraid of life and death, unafraid to enjoy the beautiful and to be happy.
Just for today I will adjust myself to what is and not try to make everything over to suit me. If I cannot have what I like I will try to like what I have.
Just for today I will be agreeable, cheerful, charitable, praise people for what they do, and not critisize them for what they cannot do: and if I find fault, I will forgive and and forget it. I will not try to improve or regulate anybody "except myself"
Just for today I will have a plan. I may not follow it exactly , but I will have one, It will save me from worry, hurry and indecision.
Just for today I will look at life with fresh eyes and discover the onder of it: I will know that as I give to the world so the world will give me.
Just for today I will not show it if my feelings are hurt.
Just for today I will find time to relax and to realize what life is and can be: time to think about HP and get better perspective on myself.

Thanks, Gardengal! I love this concept of "just for today" when I remember it! Of course I forget, and start worrying about next year, 5 years from now, twenty years ago, and so on! But when I first heard this, it was mind-blowing! You mean I can be good to myself "just for today". Or forgive some pain in the neck, "just for today"?! Not react in my usual ways "just for today"? Yes, I can! And with enough "just for todays", I've found that I'm in a new and better place with a lot of things. There's so much good stuff in the 12-step program! "Just for today" I'm remembering a lot of things I am truly grateful for!
