For me people make my holidays :)

This past week a friend of mine passed away from cancer. :( I am having company come tomorrow to stay with us from out of town. I am putting off decorating the house and getting things done for xmas. I decided that if I only have a small amount of decorations out before xmas that is fine. If the house is not as clean as I want it to be that is fine too. I need to take care of my health so I can keep helping out my parents and so I can stay healthy for me. Being with my loved ones for the holidays is the most important thing for me. They won't notice the messy house or the lack of decorations. I usually work my self almost to the point of collapsing for 2 days. I am not going to do that this year. I am going to pace myself and concentrate on what is important in my life. The people in it whom I love and care for more than anything. Enough perfectionism for me. Those days are long gone. Time to stop and live in the moment and enjoy those that I can who are still on this earth to share it with. Thanks to all of you who are in my life too :) That is why I take time to post and reply. Without you, my life would be one big chaos still revolving around the alcoholic. I am in it for peace and serenity now and I just know great things are in store for me and my family with this new found way of life. your friend in recovery, cdb :)

Taking time to live in the moment sounds wonderful!  It's what memories are made of.  I am sorry to hear about your friend and am glad you have company for the holidays.  That will be fun and take your mind off of things.  Enjoy the holidays.  We deserve it!

cdb,

Sorry for your loss. What a sweet and caring post. I feel so much better this year. I am safe and warm. If it happens fine, if only a little happens fine. I am like you; I am truly blessed with friends and family who care and all our support from Alanon friends.

In support,

Nancy

So sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.  Cancer is one of those diseases that's uglier than alcoholism in my book.

I too will have a very quiet holiday this year, nobody coming over, and we're not going anywhere.  Hubby has to work right through the holidays.  My plan is to take some time and play some board games with my kids and just generally hang out at home (and NOT do any work, housework or otherwise.....well okay as little housework as I can get away with).

Take care my friend.

{{hugs}} and thanks for sharing

I posted on another message board that I received my 2 greatest Christmas gifts already this year. Both my husband and brother have had cancer tests this past week. We found out last night that they are both negative! Thank goodness - they have both had cancer in the past.

This Christmas season I will put more effort into enjoying every day life with my A husband.

Thanks for that post and for you kind thoughts and words of support the other day.  You are a wonderful person and you deserve a great holiday with your family.  I too am in a good place right now and am living in the moment.  I have alanon to thank for my serenity.

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.   I lost my best friend to cancer right before Christmas 7 years  ago.  Now I can remember her and celebrate her life by spending my Christmas loving my family and enjoying their company.

Merry Christmas!

So sorry for your loss.  I need to take your advice - would do my body good to be easy on it & enjoy the people if I can more.  Smart thinking.

Take Care,

Cedarpines
