I think the founders of Alanon really knew what they were doing. Busy with step 4, I have often wondered why step 1, 2, and 3 were not 10, 11, and 12 because they were the hardest for me. In fact, I am still working on them, but decided I had to move on.
Anyway,on Step 4, I realized how little trust I had. Buffeted by the changing winds of life, I had turned into a practicing Christian, who in reality was an agnostic, even on some points close to an atheist. Well, I think step1, 2 and 3 are meant to restore us.
I have often heard in the chat room that roomies have experienced a conflict between church and alanon and/or counseling. This post is to say that I too do not always agree with my church, but I have found harmony between God's Word and Alanon. For me, the key to recovery is in Step 1, 2, and 3 and I think the founders of Alanon realized this. There's harmony in HP and the first three steps.
