Good for you....go for it. I had to reply to your post because last night I decided to do the same thing.

Before I went to bed last night i washed and put away all the ashtrays, emptied the bins to get rid of the smells, deodorised the whole house with a nice aromatherapy spray....got into bed and prayed the serenity parayer along with my usual ramblings to God and ended with,"Oh and by the way,I have decided to give up smoking so I need an extra dose of inner strength because I know that my new choice will be a really big struggle for me Lord."

I woke up this morning and put the kettle on for a nice cup of tea and the first hour without a cigarette was hellish,so I got busy and tried not to think about it. I am planning to keep myself as distracted as possible to avoid giving in to the craving. And it struck me that maybe I need to go through this to give me a better understanding of how hard it is for my active A.

Good luck with the no smoking policy...I'll pray we both kick the habit.

Hoooray for you notsonew!!! Resolve is the issue here. Just as it is with any other "habit." I am not going to call it an addiction, even though that's really what smoking is. When I was very young I thought smoking was the thing to do. All my friends did it, so I started it myself. Thus began a habit that lasted ten years for me. One day I was reading a magazine in my doc's office and it told me that chronic bronchitis could KILL me. I had chronic bronchitis...I put the cigs down then and there and never smoked another one. Went cold turkey...Within three days the bronchitis was gone, I got my taste back, my wind back, and began the recovery and the path back to good health. It is sooooo worth it, notsonew. For the first month you will feel like you have lost your best friend, but it will become easier and easier day by day. And the enormous amount of pride you have in your accomplishment helps you through the rough moments. It's a one day at a time situation situation for a while, but you'll make it. Then you can become a self-righteous, former smoker who fans the air when anyone smokes near you, pretends a sickly cough even smelling it, refuses to allow anyone to smoke in your house or car, gives smokers dirty looks. I do all that to this day. Oh it's so much fun!!! LOL!! Seriously, you are taking one of the most important steps you will ever make to ensure your lasting good health. I wish you the best of luck and will be pulling for you. Diva

My best wishes to you. I quit after an alanon gratitude meeting. That was 15 years ago and is one of the miracles in my life.
