doing what is in front of me to do

It has been "one of those weeks" at work. When I got into the office and checked my email on Monday, I assembled a list of things my manager had sent my way that I thought would be reasonable to accomplish this week. But as usual, on Tuesday, he slipped something another report he needed in. And on Wednesday he scheduled a conference call for Friday, for which I need to prepare another, different report.

So..here it is Wednesday, and only one thing from my original plan has been completed. I've got a task list full of cross outs and a list of 40 something things that over the weeks have been pushed aside to the "do later' category because "something else" always sneaks in as "more important." I'm pretty good about talking to him about priorities, about there only being so many hours in a day to get all this stuff done. And he is reasonable about letting me know what the priorities are as they change. So what's my problem? We're all in agreement, right?

The problem is that I've slipped into the old behavior of appraising myself by how much I get done. Sure I've cleared priorities with my manager, which is something my sponsor suggested I start doing to alleviate the pressure I feel to do "everything." Yes, I've got agreement from him about what I'm doing, but I still have that sneaking suspicion in the back of my brain that if I can get all the expected stuff done, AND take care of the rest of the things on the list, I'll be a STAR! lol. Man, nothing changes if nothing changes, and what needs changing is me...lol.

So...today I'm doing what's in front of me to do. And if there is time leftover I'll do something else, too, but I won't worry about it until what's in front of me is done. One thing at a time. :) Thanks for reading...now that I've made it clear to myself what I need to do I'm going to go get busy and do it. - Hope.

Good job. It is good that you see the problem. Now you will be able to work on it.
