looking for an idea?

Does anyone have ideas that have worked for them that they would like to share, regarding your HP. Like a journal, prayer list or something like that?  Im looking for ideas that might work for me?  I did get one the other day from a post here about a "god bag".  I liked that.  would love some feed back from members what they do and how it works for them.

Hi Sunny,

I have used a gratitude list.  I carried a little notepad with me during the week and anytime something positive happened, I wrote it down -- something as simple as smiling at a stranger who smiled back to a compliment I might have received to a fear I had that never materialized.  It was amazing that in one week alone, the amount of things that went so well.

I have to be careful not to take things for granted in my life.  So for me, that was a great exercise in the actual realization of HOW MUCH GOOD is really in my life.

yours in recovery,

Daily affirmation calendars.  It's such a habit/routine now that I don't even think about it anymore.  But, I have three small desktop type calendars where each day has a new uplifting/spiritual thought or saying.  Kind of like "Hope for Today" or "Courage to Change", etc.  I do that too.  But the table calendars keep me focussed on "just today" all day because they are visible with just that day's date.  You have to tear off the page to go to the next day, or flip to the next day if it is on a spiral stand.

I keep one in my kitchen, one in my home office, and one on my nightstand.  I wake up, make my coffee, and read a positive and/or spiritual affirmation, then I go to work in my office and about mid-day I read another positive/spiritual affirmation from that calendar, and then before I go to bed I read the one on my nightstand.  So, at a minimum, I have to "stop, read, think, and apply" three times a day.  Good spiritual massaging and grounding for me.  Keeps each day in a positive "HP motion."

I see the daily calendars here and there, but since friends/family know that I love them, I usually get them as Christmas presents to start the new year off.  My one friend says that she gets most of my daily calendars at Hallmark.

Great post.  I want to see what others add to this too!

Hello sunny,

I write prayer requests down for other people here and I pray for them. It takes my mind off my troubles and makes me focus on them. I may see the person for a long time and then I may look back in my book of prayer requests and see that their prayers were answered :) Boy does that give me inspiration. I just jot it down in a small school paper type notebook I keep at my computer or where no one esle will see :) I also write down some names of new poeple I meet with one thing so I will remember them. I feel God/HP blesses us for praying for others. And I feel prayers work. I did not use to feel that way until prayers started coming form a chat message board where many people do pray. That is why I do ask for prayers when needed. I once read where a person  had cancer and didnt' know what to do. So she prayed for others every day. Her cancer was finally gone. She felt it was from her praying as she did. That is where I came up with the idea. I also will use the alphabet and starting with A name a person from chat and go to B etc. This is my gratitude list of people I am grateful for. You could do this in a prayer type of list too. :) This is a great post and I am glad I could share what I do with you. (((((((((((sunny))))))

After years of prayer, I now always start all my prayers with a prayer for myself.  I pray for the things that I pray for others: I give thanks for my life, prayer for wisdom, well being, happiness, and serenity.  I pray for a transformation of consciousness, and to have a higher understanding of my own life and the people in it.  I've been feeling a little better since I've been doing this.

I used the "God Box" concept, and it worked for me....  It was likely one of those things, where I had to learn, practice, and use a new practice (fake it till ya make it?), and the God Box really worked to help me get used to "giving things over".  When I had stuff that was too much for me to handle, I would simply write it out on a piece of paper, and place that paper in my God Box, as a way of 'handing it over'....  I think, for me, I needed the formal practice of doing that, and eventually became more comfy with doing it, with or without the paper...

Thank you all for your imput.  What great ideas you all have.  I am ready to find a pretty box that I will use for my "God Box".  I will use this for my let go and let god things.  I also agree that the greatful list is a good idea.  And as for the prayers, I need to pray alot more so plan on putting time aside each morning or maybe in the bath like another member mentioned and take time for me to pray for myself and others.

Please keep adding to this post if you have ideas.  We will all benifit from it.

I love the line that Satori uses, live to love and love to live, I might have to steal it.
