Awesome Book on 12 Steps

Hi everyone!

Sometimes I have difficulty comprehending the 12 steps, so this evening I bought a book by Abraham J. Twerski, M.D. called "Waking Up Just In Time". It has Charlie Brown on the front cover. I am reading Step 2 and read something that really hit me over the head. It said that some people do not believe in God. The author says that this is not accurate because they do believe there is a God. The trouble is that they think THEY are He. I can totally relate to this...thinking I know what is best for everyone and the alcoholic in my life. I know I am supposed to read CAL, but I am a little slow so reading this book also helps those like me. Just thought I would share something I have learned with all of you. There was a time in my life when I gave up on God. I was very angry and became an atheist. My family flipped out when they heard this. My father was a violent alcoholic. I had my old high school bible at his house and when I was visiting I threw it in the trash. The next time I was at his house, I saw it on top of his refrigerator. This was during the time I started Alanon. I remember crying on my way home. Even my father believes in God. I was in a terrible position and didn't have a job when I first got a Sponsor. She made me a God bag. I have it hanging in my kitchen. I wrote down on a piece of paper that I needed money to feed my children and to pay my bills and placed it in the bag. My Sponsor told me I had to have faith and let the worry go in God's hands. I did just that. A few days later I was given $2,000.00. I can't believe I gave up on Him at one time in my life. Everytime I think of this I cry. He is there waiting for us to ask for help as long as we have total faith in Him. I wanted to share a wonderful story with everyone so I can give hope to others and also as a reminder to myself. Love to all of you who read.

What an awesome idea!  A god bag.  Im going to do this.  I have a hard time trusting my HP.  Lately I have just been in a negative place and think why do I need him and for what.  Then I wonder to myself why I struggle.  If only I believed too.  I like most have daily struggles and not always is it financial but emotional too.  Maybe if I had a bucket or bag that I could place a note that I had written and handed it over to my HP.  Kinda like the slogan Let go and Let god, I would be able to have more faith that maybe, just maybe if I believed, something good might happen.

Good luck on your read, sounds like you have already gotten something from your new book.

Thank you so much for this wonderful idea.  I think it will be a great addition to my home and I am sure it will be helpful for my children as well.  I truly believe that they will be able to relate to this concept.

You have helped so much and it just reaffirms the fact that I do learn something new here everyday and I am going to keep coming back..

Thanks again
