Health Links

Hi

I was just wondering if any of you knew any health links - regarding how living with an alcoholic relates to OUR health.

Thanks!

Health links

I would like some too.

I can tell you that I have learned alot since I joined the alanon club last July.

I read in the library about a lady with 7 kids and an alcoholic husband. She died at age 35...of old age.

I met a woman who is now on disability due to physical affects from the stress of living with her alcoholic husband. He was verbally and physically abusive.

I know a dear friend who has deathly high blood pressure from dealing with her alcoholic husband.

And sadly, I know myself. I gained a great deal of weight over the last 3 years to cope with my husbands drinking 24/7 after he lost his job. My weight and blood pressure sykrocketed this year. My husband tried to wake me up at night by shining lights in my eyes. I was up to 4 sleeping pills a night.

I left.

I am losing weight and my blood pressure is normal. I no longer need sleeping pills. The nightmares have gone.

Keep coming back

in recovery

Oh my gosh Megan -- he woke you up by shining lights in your eyes.  How horrible for you!!!  Mine just wakes me up for sex.....

I know my blood pressure has gone up and I used to always be normal  and I know I have stress.  I'd just like to see some "scientific facts" or studies on this and I'm sure there are some out there - maybe I need to search a little more.

Last month my A was so so drunk - into the next day drunk and he never got that way before - well he was taking his pain pills (Vicodin) and drinking and it just totally accelerated the drunken-ness.  Of course he wouldn't listen to me when I told him not to mix his pills with alcohol but once I printed out a couple of things from the web I've noticed it hasn't happened since.

I'm very into natural cures/remedies and I do not want to go on BP pills or any other prescribed pill (I think the FDA, FTC and government are all lining each other's pockets and could really care less about the general population's health - but that's a whole nother topic) and I need to find some ways to relieve the stress.

Hi there,

Do a Google search, or my other favorite search engine: www.dogpile.com! It barks at you when it gets a hit. WebMd.com might have a link. You can also contact the staff at an outpatient/inpatient service. I met a great councelor there who worked with families and he read everything from Taoism, medical journals, along with all the other required reading. If you're still not getting what you need, call the university. I'll let you know if I find anything. Good luck.

Live strong,
Karilynn
