Why we came to Alanon

We all come to Alanon because our lives have been affected by the disease of alcoholism. Many of us enter these doors feeling defeated by theis desease. We may have spent our energies trying to get an active alcoholic to stop drinking or otherwize control his or her actions; we may have spent much of our lives struggling with the effects of growing u p in an alcoholic home. No matter what our individual situation is, in Alanon we discover that we are not alone and that a different way of life is available to us through the Twelve Steps.
~Paths to Recovery~

If you try to keep an open mind, you will find help. You will come to realize that there is no situation to difficult to be bettered, and no unhappiness to great to be lessened.
~Suggested closing from Alanon/Alateen service manual~

(Life before Alanon,) It's lonely. It's wanting so desperately to be a part, yet pushing people so far away I couldn't possibly be connnected. It's isolating myself and then being the outsider looking and never fitting in. I'm afraid they won't come back, and then I'm afraid they will. It's confusing. People say they love me and then they hurt me. In my gut, I know something is wrong, but told I overreact, or I am too sensitive. So I learn not to trust my instincts.

Bcraindrop70,

The following books given are great books

~Paths to Recovery~

~Suggested closing from Alanon/Alateen service manual~

~From Survival to Recovery~

I'd like to add

"One Day At A Time in Al-Anon"

"Courage to Change in Al Anon"

"Hope for Today"

These are daily readers.  I try to begin my day by reading a page a day which does not overwhelm me but helps me with one "tool" at a time like Detachment for example.

You can find these books at most Al Anon meetings, www.amazon.com (sometimes used at a good price) and on this website there's a link too.

Welcome (((((((((((bcraindrop)))))))))))))) <---------hugs, we are glad you are here,
