information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal

I just wanted to pass along this Alanon bookmark which has helped me tremendously when life seemed out of control. You can pick one up in a f2f meeting or an alanon information center. The concepts on it may be hard to practice completely on any given day. I have found that if I pick one and use it for that day my spirit is lifted. In particular the first one, just for today I will live through this day ONLY, and not tackle ALL my problems at once....... Thanks for letting me share.. XXXX OOOO'S tommye
This conference-approved literature in bookmark form provides meditations and a prayer to help us stay focused on what we can do, Just For Today.
JUST FOR TODAY I will try to live through this day only, and not tackle all my problems at once. I can do something for twelve hours that would appall me if I felt that I had to keep it up for a lifetime.
JUST FOR TODAY I will be happy. This assumes to be true what Abraham Lincoln said, that "Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be."
JUST FOR TODAY I will adjust myself to what is, and not try to adjust everything to my own desires. I will take my "luck" as it comes, and fit myself to it.
JUST FOR TODAY I will try to strengthen my mind. I will study. I will lean something useful. I will not be a mental loafer. I will read something that requires effort, thought and concentration.
JUST FOR TODAY I will exercise my soul in three ways: I will do somebody a good turn, and not get found out; if anybody knows of it, it will not count. I will do at least two things I don't want to do - just for exercise. I will not show anyone that my feelings are hurt; they may be hurt, but today I will not show it.
JUST FOR TODAY I will be agreeable. I will look as well as I can, dress becomingly, keep my voice low, be courteous, criticize not one bit. I won't find fault with anything, nor try to improve or regulate anybody but myself.
JUST FOR TODAYI will have a program. I may not follow it exactly but I will have it. I will save myself from two pests: hurry and indecision.
JUST FOR TODAYI will have a quiet half hour all by myself and relax. During this half hour, sometime, I will try to get a better perspective on my life.
JUST FOR TODAY I will be unafraid. Especially I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful, and to believe that as I give to the world, so the world will give to me.
Aloha Tommyecat...So right on and supportive to others. I have the very same experience and in early program committed that "book mark" to memory and let it become my practice. Thanks so much for that supportive ESH...Passing it on means that others will benefit from it as you have and myself. (((((hugs)))))

Hi Evelyn, and others, I am so grateful for finding this way in finding help, The Just For Today card was the first thing that started to save my life. I can remember my very, very early days in Alanon and the Meetings, I grabbed hold of the card and have never let it go, where ever I go, it goes with me, I am never ever without it. Why it meant so much to me, was, because, One Day At A Time meant was too far in the Future for me, I needed something, right now, this Day to hold onto and it gave me direction. Which it did, and does still today, after many years, in Alanon.
the other thing that works for me is, I copied, both Just For Today, and all The Slogans, cut them up and put them in a Lovely Container, and whenever I need/want more Direction in my Day, I pull 1 Slogan, 1 Just For Today reading, out and apply it to my Day. It is amazing just how much it can keep me centered, and on Track. I found out about it at a District Meeting, they called it, a Serenity Bag.
try It, as It works for me. It is simple and Easy to do.
