i LEARNED

On Saturday the wedding. We went in after the cermony and it was champane and strawberrys, I said to my self here we go with the alchol right away. Well I said to my self there is nothing I can do to stop him from drinking. But I was very tense over it. I had to trust him or the wedding would become a problem. I knew I was around my aunts and uncles so he wouldn't make a scene. So I cross my fingers and hope for the best. Well during the cocktail Rick went to the OPEN BAR, which I can never understand that. So many people get drunk and then they have to drink home. Go figure. Some people don't think. When Rick went up to the open bar my father went up to him and said WHAT ARE YOU DOING, and at first Rick thought I sent him there to get him. My father said no I didn't. But my father was not a one to talk he was at the bar som many times it was awful. I felt bad for my mom because that all he was doing was drinking. My mom and him had a fight before they went to the wedding about that she gets embarrssed all the time with his drinking. So that when he was talking to Rick it went in one ear and out the other. Who is going to listen to someone about alchol and not doing it when he couldn't stay away from the bar. As for Rick he didn't go to the bar at all the whole wedding. Of course there I was nervous the whole night because you just don't know they can slip out at any moment to go to the bar and I would never know. But he wasn't going to be drinking on this day because my dad was always there. Well any way Rick had said something and my dad said to him well my cousin the one who got married is working the program. My cousin is in aa. But who is he to talk about going to the program.
I found out what happen that Tuesday he got drunk that day and went to his friends house and ended up sleeping on his couch. When we were talking in the car on the way home from the meeting he was telling me how he doesn't like alchol and what it is doing to him. He though however has not gone to a meeting again. He said when he is ready he will go.

I'm glad your A didn't get drunk and embarass you at the wedding!!
My observation on your post is that you sound WAY to focused on his behavior.
Did you have any enjoyment of the wedding for yourself? or were you just busy focusing on what your A or your dad drank?
I'm not being critical of you, but I think that is how we co-dependents have to look at our lives.
I have been guilty of this exact behavior--and it is really hard to back down off it once we recognize that alcoholism is the cause of many of our problems.
you need find serenity whether or not the alcoholic is drinking or not. You really can. but I also realize that it seems easier ot be happy if they quit.
take care
