Doing really well...

Well my "A" and I have been doing real well lately.  He knows about Alanon and he is real supportive.  Night before last  his brothers wife called and left a messgae real late about his brother (also an alcoholic-but hasnt admitted it yet).  I guess they had a big fight that got out of hand and the cops came and everything.  So my "A" calls them back yesterday midday and they ask him to come over, I guess to mediate or something.  So my "A" went over there and told his brother that he is an alcoholic, that they both are.  And that they should go to a meeting.  So my husband goes home and researches meetings in the area, and he finds one and talks to a guy for a while about it.  And around a half an hour before the meeting starts he leaves to go pick up his brother, and he comes back because his brother isnt there.  So he calls him and he says he "forgot".  I think it's just that he really didnt want to go yet, so I guess they are trying again tonight.  When my husband came home he kept apologizing to me because he didnt go.  And I told him that when he goes it will be for him, not for me.  And I'm not mad at him for not going, when he's ready he'll go.  He has been drinking everynight still but I can tell it's really starting to depress him, that with every beer he grows more disappointed in himself.  It a struggle and I realize that now.  Before Alanon, I wouldnt have understood why he keeps drinking if he feels bad about it.  And I probably would have attacked him about it.  But now, we talk about the disease openly almost everynight, and we talk about Alanon and AA.  And our marriage has never been better.

I am so glad things are going well for you.

Isn't amzing what happens when we learn how to detach from situations? Way to go! You are being very supportive of your husband, and he needs that. And you are right he will go to a meeting when he is ready.

Keep up the good work!

Much Love,
