Second update: Rock Springs, Wyoming (1030 mountain, 1230 eastern)
As most of you know, Peggy7 opened up her house in Lincoln, Nebraska to me and my gratitude knows no bounds. It was so nice to sit and talk with no time pressures! Having a big red surrogate dog for a night was a lot of fun too :)
I arrived in Laramie without incident and hit the meeting about 15 minutes late (not bad for a 500 mile drive). As Laramie's hotel rates were too expensive, I headed for Wagonhound Road rest area some distance away. $55 for a motel 6? no way. It was so nice to see the sun come up over the mountains with no city lights around.
To those who warned me about the unique hazards of mountain driving, a huge thanx to you too. It is very sleep inducing out here and staying awake is a real problem even with wonderful coffee in me. The scenery is just plain wonderful and I'm learning a lot. Funny how all those old history lessons come alive when you drive through a new part of the country...
My goal for today is Salt Lake City and of course, a meeting :) I will try to get into chat if the locals find me a cybercafe! I do plan to take a (planned) hotel room night there to catch up on shower, sleep, writing and other things.
Contrary to popular belief, there ARE indeed real cafes that serve REAL coffee there in SLC!!! LOL.... you'll get the joke soon when you get there......Have fun, SLC is really nice (and very clean) and a lot of historical venues there.
thanks for keeping us updated haxi (((((((haxi)))))) I still think your travel plans should have come through ND. You could have had 2 sleeping companions. One big black cat and tuffy the kitten LOL. Take care and drive safely. cdb :)
Stay awake the best is yet to come-Oreagun! Make sure you pronounce it correctly. Oreagone is a dead give away you're not a native. We don't torture the invaders or anything, just want your reception to be friendly!
((((((((((((((((Haxi)))))))))))))))) It's so good to hear from you and know that you are safe and enjoying your trip. We miss you in the room...you were always so nice to newcombers like myself. Stay safe and save some of that serenity for me. LOL I'm praying for ya!
Of interest to you might be that on Tuesday nights at the Salt Lake City tabernacle you can catch organ rehearsal and sometimes the rehearsals of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. It's free on a first-come-first-serve basis. Tuesdays also is the day of the free organ concert by the master organist there. We lived in Utah for three years, and often made the trip to SLC to enjoy these events.
Best of wishes for a safe trip, Diva
