Hi,

I am also a PAFM (Proud Air Force Mom) I belong to another board for spouses and parents of Air Force Members.  It helps me through the difficult times.  My son is still state side and since his wife has a terminal disease it looks as though he will not be deployed.  Find support through friends, journaling, etc.  It is so hard with military children, I miss him so very much.  He textes me every morning with "good morning mom, I love you" he knows how difficult my life has become with his step father and wants to help, but knows we can't do anything about the drinking and using.

Hang in there, Hugs Mary

Hi Cindy B and welcome. As you work to understand and accept the fact of your son is going to Iraq, keep in mind two things: He will be okay, returning as he left, and he is a HERO!! Our dedicated servicemen are special gifts from God who accomplish, without question, what is asked of them. No matter how we feel about war, it is the duty of all of us to support our heroes in uniform. I know you are a proud Mama, so stand tall and smile, knowing HP is on his side. I will keep him and you in my prayers and positive thoughts. Diva

Cindyb,

We support your son in the military.

What we learn in Alanon is that you are not alone. My oldest son is going to Iraq in November. This is his 3rd tour of duty - 2nd in Iraq and 1 in Afghanistan. You bet I am 12 stepping it all the way. He is not really positive this time because he knows what it is like. We remind him that he volunteered and reupped in the Army and that he needs to have a positive attitude. We told him that we loved him and that we support him and that we will be there when he comes home. We told him that if he helps one family over there it will be worth it.

As a mother, I have cried. In fact it is ironic, I just finished crying in my back yard with a friend who asked me how I was doing. I told her that I was concerned for our son. She said that you are not alone and that we support you. And I say that to you, you are not alone. Somehwere there is a higher power for all our sons and daughters in the military and for the Iraqi people as well. At some point, I know I need to let go and let god.

I don't know how they exchange e-mail addresses on this site but I would be glad to e-mail you personally.

In support,

Nancy
