tooo new

I am very new to everything. I have been reading around on the postings, so I hope I have some idea of what's going on here.  I have never been to a meeting or on the net for meetings so I'll need some guidance at times.

I have been with an a for 17 years and the insanity just keeps on rolling. I'm going to keep current with the steps offered and begin with the first step and do the best I can. Is this a good place to start? Anyother suggestions?? Thank you, I feel good and safe just being here.

Hi Victoria,

Welcome!

You've come to the right place  :)

Two books were suggested to me.  Paths To Recovery and Dilemna of the Alcoholic Marriage.  I got both from Amazon.com.

Please join us in the chatroom for meetings and general chat.  It's been a lifesaver to me.  I also suggest you check in to al-anon meetings in your area.

Here is the chat schedule, hope to see you soon.  We've all been where you are so I hope you'll feel at home here.

(Mornings)
Mon., Tues., Wed. & Fri. 9AM
(Nightly Meetings)
Mon.-Sat. - 9PM
Sun.-7PM
(Open for General Chat between meetings)
To join us, use the link on our Alanon page

Meetings are scheduled for Eastern time zone.

Christy

Welcome Victoria

This is a great place to hang out, everbody here has a common thread and we all help and support each other with experience, sharing and hope, the chatroom is great and the on line meetings are fantastic.

Sorry to hear you are struggling - Living with an alcoholic is too much for most people.

There are ways you can improve your life though even if the alcoholic chooses not to change.

You are amoung friends please come back ASAP

Welcome Victoria,

Glad you have found your way here. When I first came I found this forum so helpful and the open chat as well as the online meetings. I was so lost and now have hope. I posted a while ago the steps explained and it has helpped me in many ways just to break it down and have a deeper understanding.

Glad you are here keep comming back!

JJ

Hi, Victoria,

Welcome,

Alanon has pretty much saved my life, and my sanity. No matter what the alcoholic does, the program can help you take care of you. It is too much for anyone to handle alone.

Read the literature and anything else you can get your hands on. Knowledge is power and it lets you know, it is not you and not your fault.

Keep coming back.

                 Love Jeannie

Hi Victoria,

Wow, we could be twins, I've been struggling with my A for the last 17 years as well.  We've been together longer, but the problem only became real to me after we moved 3000 miles away from all of my family so I have been struggling..without family support, with this fellow for the last 17 years.  Thank god for Al-Anon though, it gave me the survival tools I needed so desperately (even if I didn't realize it at the time).  I haven't been to a face to face meeting for 16 years (he was angry when he found out where I was going) so to save friction, I stopped going but kept the tools.  Oh how many times have I recited the serenity prayer to myself. And somewhere along the line I finally started living by those statements without even having to consciously think about it.

I found this site about a month ago, when I was on yet another downward spiral, and once again, this group has helped me find my way again..... my lifeline!  So, welcome and keep coming back.   See you in chat!
