I Can Do Attitude

It is just as easy to think, "I can" as it is to think, "I can't." Both attitudes are habitual orientations to life that can become automatic with practice. Neither attitude has as much to do with the task at hand as it does with the inner spirit of the person facing the task. In either case, the task is the same - only the attitude is different.

But what a difference! The "I can" people are the ones we want to spend time with and to use as models. These are the people who either have never lost, or have worked to regain the positive outlook we are all born with. It never occurs to a baby, for example, that all that staggering and falling means he or she will never learn to walk. Babies grow, move forward, and succeed. They haven't learned to hang back or fear defeat. Knee-jerk negativity is something we can all do without. Let's backtrack to that time in our lives when all things were possible ... because they still are.

Today, I will focus on my successes. "I can" is my credo.

I was just thinking about this kind of thing on my way to work this morning. If I have 2 things that are on my mind worrying me and there are many other things that I have to be grateful for, I am always dwelling on the 2 negative things. I sometimes feel I am on the verge of being able to turn these things over to my HP and let them go. Then, there are the times that I take them right back. I know that I have no control over the outcome but I just need to dwell on it. Why?????
I wish I knew. I listen to Joel Osteen on tv on Friday nights and last week it really spoke to me. His message was about how we allow situations and people steal our joy. If we continue to worry about people and situations we are not really giving it to HP.

I keep trying to practice this.

Hi Gailey,

It is sooooooooo hard to let go. I think maybe that obsessing and worrying over outcomes feels like we have some sort of control over it. It's like a defense mechanism to protect ourselves from pain. Right now I'd like to have a labotomy to cut out the worrying, but I will keep practicing.

When I was 13 years old I wanted to play basketball. I had played the year before and I was terrible. I loved being part of a team and I loved playing. I begged my mom to sign-up again but she refused citing time to drive me to practice and money. I was babysitting at the time and used my own money to pay the fees and uniform. I walked to practice or took the bus. That's the girl I try to think of when I feel stuck and flat on my face.

kissers,

I just put a quote that is similar on my refrigerator.
It is:
"The energy that we have in resistance to do things is exactly the amount of of energy that is availavle to do them"

I think I should have put an arrow pointing to the trash can below the quote..lol

OU, that is a great story about that basketball gal. Love that, I have some like that too. These are great images for us to have to keep us going. We have this pure power at our core, we know it. It just gets covered in garbage sometimes but nothing can remove it or snuff it out. Thanks for reminding me of mine. J.

Every day I set goals of what I want to do and where I want to go. I focus on that like a laser.
