Being Proud of myself

For the first time in quit some time I actually proud of myself, I have set a few boundaries which have made me feel much better about myself. Last night AH came home, proceeded to attempt the nightly fight, and instead of allowing him to cuss me out and call me names I looked at him and said "when you can talk to me like an adult w/out the name calling, then we will talk". I couldn't believe how good that made me feel, just knowing that I didn't have to stand there and listen to him put me down or cuss me out.

I am still taking baby steps, that is all I can expect out of myself for right now. I actually wish I would have started Al-anon a LONG time ago! I know that I have a long road ahead of me, and that it is going to take a lot of strength on my part. But for right now I am just going to enjoy the feelings that I have and the knowing that I actually stood my ground.

I thank God for Al-Anon, with out this program and all of you wonderful people I'm not sure what or where I would be right now! Thank you so much!

CJC,
Yep, it feels pretty good as we dig up the lost self respect.  That one sentence told your A that you will no longer be talked to in that manner because you care about you  :)
He will no doubt test the boundary again.  Just remember you are in control and if need be can just walk away and not allow it.
Good job!!

Christy

CJC,

That is awesome! It is such a great feeling when you start getting your self-respect back. He will try again, no doubt. Just keep workin' it, cause you're worth it!

Hugs,
Lisa
