Checking in from Alaska

Hi Peeps!

I made it to Alaska after an all day trip in airports and jets. I really dislike getting here but I guess I could look at the alternative...driving..lol
I always get a window seat so I can have something to look at.  This time I went thru Utah to hitch the ride to Anchorage.  Man! Was it ever pretty.  I had no idea how huge Salt Lake (the literal lake) was.  Utah has Beautiful red sand then all of a sudden we were flying over snow capped mountains.  Just awesome.  Approaching Anchorage, along the Turnagain Arm the trees were just bursting with orange and red colors.
It was great to see hubby again but when we walked out of the airport I got a surprising blast of cold air.  Yikes!!  I left St. Louis in 90 degree weather and it was 38 here!!  My coat was in my suitcase.
We got to hubbi's apartment and he built a fire.  He is getting used to this weather and kept telling me it's not cold..HELLOOOOO!!!  It's50 degrees colder.

Yesterday we took a ride to Kinkaid Park .  It's full of wildlife, as is most everywhere you go here.  We took a side path and discovered a lake with the fall colors of the trees reflecting in the water.  We sat and just looked at the beauty for a long time and out of nowhere a huge bald eagle swooped down and grabbed a fish out of the lake.  It was so awesome.  We watched as it went back up in to a tree and saw that it's mate was there two. They are such magestic creatures.

We were heading home and came across a big bull moose meandering along a fence line.  Hubby stopped the car and we got out and got a few pictures.  They seem so docile and kind of Bullwinklish but they can be deadly.

We went out to eat Tai food with some friends last night and on the way home saw a police car parked half way in the road.  As we went by I saw someone had hit a moose and it's long legs were stretched out in to the road.  Poor thing.

Today we are going on another adventure to see the Matanuska Glacier.  There are lots of interesting things along the way like the Eagle River Nature Center.  Full of bear, eagles, bison, moose, elk etc.  Then we plan on taing awalk up to Thunderbird Falls.  It's going to an awesome day.  I just love it here...before November..lol  After that forgettaboutit!

OK!  Off and running ..Ya'll take care..and I'll try not to get eaten by something..lol

love
Christy

Hey Christy
When I saw your post the first thing I was going to ask was about the weather.

I've never been there, but Alaska is somewhere I want to go someday. I'm no fan of the cold but north Idaho at 3500ft will prepare me a bit.

Watch out for the bears! Lock your car doors! And no carrying french fries or donuts on the hike!

Last winter a moose got inside the fence and hung around the house all night. I thought the dogs would have a stroke, but I didn't dare let them out. I've seen one in broad daylight here about five miles from the house . . . you don't realize how huge they are on TV.

I hope you continue to have a great time at a nice distance from the wildlife :D, but close enough to get a good look :)

Kim

hi christy,

thanks for sharing your trip to alaska.
i live in northern alberta canada.
no mountains,
just the land of the whispering hills
and,
the northern lights.
i love it here.
even in the cold winter.
i have always said .........,
if i ever move again,
it will be further north.
your post brings that longing back to my heart.
if only for the moment.

jewely
