Emotional Exhaustion update

A few weeks ago I posted about being diagnosed with this affliction.  At the time I was seriously doubting my sanity and what lay ahead for me.

Hubby and I got out of town last week for some seriously overdue R&R and while we were gone I started having muscle spasms to the point that I could barely walk for the pain.  My dear Aunt happened to be at the same resort and found the knot in my back that was causing the pain.  After we talked for awhile, she shared how she had gone through much the same thing, however, the culprit wasn't a slow loss of brain cells it was a reaction to the drug Lipitor.  That is when the bells, whistles and lightbulbs went off.  I was also taking Lipitor and prior to that had been on a different statin drug.

I stopped taking the Lipitor and upon returning home I received a call from my primary physician telling me that the Lipitor and my antidepressant were cancelling each other out and I must stop taking one or the other.  (none of the doctors caught this it was the mail order pharmacy I use that hit on it)  I then called the doctor that prescribes my antidepressant and after explaining the symptoms to him he agreed that it was classic textbook symptoms of a problem with the Lipitor.  He told me that the Lipitor attacks the skelatal muscles thus accounting for the muscle cramps and little or no energy in my arms and legs.

The upside of this is that he reassures me that I will survive  aww  but that it will probably be at least another two to three weeks before I start feeling much better.

I have very little energy, when your arms and legs feel like limp noodles you just don't go very far very fast.  I've been taking 2-3 hour naps daily and sleeping 8-9 hours at night with no assistance from medications.  Obviously my body needs it.  I have also started on a vigerous regimine of vitamins and minerals to help build my system back up.

As frustrating as all of this is it was good to find out what had caused the emotional exhaustion and that I will be ok.  Since then I have talked to a lot of people that have also had problems with the Lipitor.  One man is now on crutches, it destroyed the testosterone in another man, one lady has gone totally to alternative medicine and the list goes on and on.

This has taught me that I need to look further as to what else may be going on when I react to things in a way that is not usual for me.

Thank goodness you cought this before any permanent damage. We all need to be careful of this kind of thing and ask questions of our doctors, so they know what else we are taking.

So glad you will be well again soon.

Glad to hear you have some resolution.  I hope that you start feeling more energzied over the next few weeks.  Not knowing can makes things so much more exhausting.  Good luck and keep us posted,
In good health and prayer.

Wow! I'm so glad the real reason was discovered! I've heard of statin drugs doing this to some people, how scary.

I wish you a quick recovery from this and a better medication once this is all over :)
