Watching my daughter rise above.

Hi family...

My daughter, 35, separated with her husband at the beginning of summer after several previous times..  She has a 3 yr. old son and a full time job.  She struggled paying her rent, her car payment and her babysitter for months.
Her husband rarely helps her monitarily.  He says that she chose this road so she can walk it alone.  That's his way of getting back at her.  I won't go in to bashing him because I don't want to give him attention or power.  I'll just say that he has cost her a lot , not necessarily money, but self.
My daughter was of course was depressed initially.  But she is also someone that I have never known to be defeated.
I talked to her a lot about the "Law of Attraction", tools of Alanon, and we've become very close in doing so.  She began (slowly) to understand and change her way of negative thinking toward him (focus) and put her energy where it better serves her.

Fast forward a few mo...Last week she was promoted in her job and was given a $9,000.00 a yr. raise. (no more struggling).
She has over the course of 5-6 months lost over 30 lbs.
And today, she accomplished one of her dreams.  She is running in her first marathon.  It is called a half marathon because it is 13 miles.  She called me at the 11 mile mark and said "Mom,  I'm going to make it!!  I'm at mile 11 and am 1 mile ahead of my team".  Her team gets $1,000 for charity if completed.

I would absolutely love to be at that finish line for her but I have severe bronchitis and while coughing managed to hurt my back (again).
She said "This crab is comin out of her shell"!!  I laughed and said I thought of her more as a blooming flower, not a crab..lol.

As I thought about it, I thought even though I'd love to cheer her on, maybe it's a good thing that she is doing this alone.  She is going to feel her own power today, know that she can do anything, the power is within her.  She is going to feel total accomplishment of a long time dream and know that she can accomplish ANYTHING..

This is exactly what my signature line means.
Anyone can do the same to live their dream, no matter what the situation.   It IS possible to have a vision, know that you WILL accomplish it, then LIVE IT.

My child of an alcoholic is breaking all barriers.  She inspires me.

UPDATE:  She finished and got medal!!  I'm so proud of her.  She said that near the end it was getting hard but she knew she was the only one that could make it happen.  She could see the end nearing, looked up, thanked HP, dug down and went for it.  clap.gif  Congrats Shelli!!!!!!

(((((((((Christy)))))))))))))),

Tears of joy reading you and your daughter's story.  The part that got me is her call to you biggrin.gif; wow.

HP works if we allow it to happen.  The part of my life that was the worst was when I gave up on myself and believed what my qualifiers told me rather than reject their stinkin' thinkin'.

Thanks so much for sharing today's hope.  Give her a hug of congratulations from me too (she'll think I'm crazy but that's ok).

love ya,
Maria

Wow, how I needed to hear that today. Thank you so much for sharing that. Your daughter has a wonderful confidant in you. I am so glad you are here with us... and so pleased she is doing so well. Her heart must be about to burst with pride and self worth... what a blessing!

You have shown this ol crab that I can come out of my shell too. (She may be a flower... but I am definitely a crab! LOL )

Take care of you!

w00t.gifw00t.gifw00t.gif Christy's daughter.
Thank you for sharing that with us. What an inspiration.
Next year there is going to be a "Chase the Cops" run, it is also for charity. There is a group of my friends and we are wanting to do this. We have all dedicated ourselves to becoming more healthy and have also partnered with someone to have a walking buddy. My buddy and I are building up to the point where we can run. (Easy does it lol). But just thinking about doing this is so unlike me. It will be fun. And my partner and I are trying to figure out how we get a cute cop to cuff us, hehe.
Anyway, thanks for sharing that again. I needed to hear that. It is really wet outside today, and a two mile walk isn't sounding to good, but if I want to accomplish my goal, I need to do the footwork.
Yours in recovery,
Mandy aka Dolphin123

((((((((Christy))))))),

WOOHOO! w00t.gif  CONGRATS TO SHELLI!  clap.gif  She has had a great example of how to live the program in you.  Give her an extra big hug from me and Pipers Kitty.  You know I'm a Happy Lunatic.  I love seeing people accomplish their goals.  I think you're right about her doing it on her own.  You were there in spirit and that's right where you should have been.  Take good care of your bronchitis and back.  Love and blessings to you and your family.

Live strong,
Karilynn & Pipers Kitty sprint.gif   <---who can't

At the 11 mile mark she realized that she could and would do it...on her own.  But...she still wanted to share that with you and called.

Both are equally awesome !

Thanks for sharing it with us.

Hi all! Christy's daughter here. THANK YOU ALL VERY,VERY much for your support and kindness. This year has been a trip...so I decided to walk it with both feet planted firmly!! I referred to myself as a crab because it seems I've had to claw my way to where I am...but I'll run with the flower theory also..LOL

Thanks Mom for being you! Though you could not be at the finish line..you were with me in a way that is invaluable. I am grateful that we have been able to make a change in our relationship and I could never express in words how grateful I am for your financial and emotional support this past year.

I am a child of an alcoholic and grateful for the trials and tribulations brought to me...they have contributed to the  person I am today!
