Hurricane Humberto

Good Morning all
just now getting to work - had a little difficulty cause we had this small thing called Hurricane Humberto - holy cr#p.

Those things are so unpredictable - yesterday afternoon it was heading toward SoutheastTexas and it was just a Tropical Storm - last night it goes a little more North & becomes a Category 1 Hurricane. Which sounds a little worse than what it is - Hurricane Katrina was a Cat 3 when it hit land, Hurricane Rita was a Cat 4 at landfall.

So I lost power at the house this morning a few times - heavy winds (40 - 50 mph w/ gust up to 70) lots & lots of rain - had a few heavy tree limbs in the yard - but did not fall on anything to cause damages (thanks God) Streets have minor debris, street flooding, schools closed - but most businesses are starting to open.

The worst has passed for us - it was just a little nerve racking there for a couple of hours - pretty much been awake since 3:00 this morning listening to the wind, rain and the news.

Just got a report from a co-worker who is at the Gulf (about 60 miles from me) and the sun is starting to shine thru - Ain't God great?

Ok - so that's the weather report from Southwest Louisiana - Hope my friends in Southeast Texas are ok too - They still got quite a bit of wind & rain, as they were hit my the Hurricane too - The entire Southern part of Louisiana is still getting a lot of rain -but most of the wind has stopped.

So not much else is happening, made it thru a hurricane, had some breakfast and now just visiting with my recovery friends - Life is Good - It's all about attitude.

Hoping your day is Happy, Joyous & Free,
Rita

(((Rita)))

So glad you all did not get major damage.  The weather is so unpredicable here in Florida too.  One minute its raining, lighting, and thundering and then 5 minutes later is bright sunshine.
Enjoy the rest of your day.  I'll have to call my family to check on them too and make sure they're doing fine.

Peace,
Twinmom~

(((((((((Rita))))))),

Glad you made it through okay.  Yes it is all about attitude.  Somehow, some way, some where the sun.gif always manages to come out.  Will keep all of you in the path of the storms in my prayers.  Love and blessings to you and your family.  Stay safe, if not dry. wink

Live strong,
Karilynn & Pipers Kitty smile

Thanks my MIP family -

Please know that the word Hurricane is so very scary for many - but it was like I said - not that bad for us. To the west of us - Port Arthur, Beaumont, Orange, TX - had stronger winds & so they are having power outages - and will take probably most of the day if not 2 for repairs.

The humidity is at 100% & the heat is bad - so those without power (especially the elderly, sick & children) that is really tough.

I'm sure our power companies are sending crews over to SE Texas to help them.

Everything is calming down with us - hope everyone has a wonderful afternoon.

Thanks again for the well wishes,
Rita

I have been thru 2 cat. 1 hurricanes in the past 2 years and growing up in washington with constant rain and occasional wind storms, I was a little disappointed. I know that if a 3 or above were coming I'd be down the road toward Charlotte tho! ;) I heard Humberto's remnants are coming our way to NC and there's another one brooding off the coast that may head this way.

I remember when I first moved here 2 years ago it was about 2 weeks after Katrina and we had just moved into our beach house (across the st. from the beach) and Ophelia came and hit us dead on. I was scared to death beforehand but after I thought hmm that was nothing all that hubbub for this? Of course that was a weak storm and the timing after the horrible disaster of Katrina had everyone on edge.

Now I'm back at the beach in the height of hurricane season. This may sound a little strange, but I always get excited when one is coming. Maybe that's the chaos seeking in me? Anyway, the last one (Gabrielle) hit just north of us and we didn't even get a drop of rain. We are down about 20" for the year and in extreme draught here so I think even a hurricane would be welcomed at this point.

Rita,

Ditto. Glad you are safe. I really like hearing from MIP folks when we have these natural disasters because it makes it more real with real people. It kinda helps to know what people have to go thru. Hope everyone else comes out ok.

In support,
Nancy
