Another painful reminder.

Well I went to switch insurance companies today and found out that back in Nov. when the A got the dui and the truck was impounded and damaged that the claim I called in was filed under MY driving record as an accident that was MY fault.  Considering that I was not anywhere near the vehicle I am extremely frustrated.  Now I have to find some sort of proof that I wasn't the one driving and provide it to my now EX insurance company so they will remove it from my driving record or it looks like I will be stuck with this on MY driving record for the next 3 years.

I'm so mad that he can still disrupt my serenity because of his stupid actions that happened 9 months ago.  I like these reminders though because I will never forget what a HASSLE it is for me to deal with the aftermath of HIS messes!  I forgot what it felt like, I'll be glad when I don't have any sort of connection to him at all.

I am, as you well know, still knee deep in the A's messes. One of them is a hit and run which he did. I have had no contact from anyone about this and presume the insurance company is taking care of it. Somehow i managed to always pay for the insurance (the most basic kind there is).
Maybe there is a police report on the incident you can get to prove you were not the driver. They are generally pretty comprehensive.

One reason I have deciced to let go of the truck is that (a) the A has damaged it so dramatically it is worth nothing and (b) there is no end to this stuff it is like a cascading series of crises.

Of course the A claims none of it is his fault.

What really gets to me at times is the deceit and how he expects me to clean it up for him when he won't even tell me the truth.

I no longer have that kind of uncondtional devotion.

I do understand this is another hassle on top of a ton of other hassles and you are already dealing with a credit mess (I have my own). I also know you are up for it.

The problem i"ve found with getting police reports is generally one has to go in in person as getting them throught he mail doesn't seemto work where I am. That for me means time off work and a long wait and more expense.

There is an end to it though. I know for me the time I have away from the A is precious these days when there were times when I could not imagine live without him. Now I look forward to that prospect and see it as a step forward rather than a devastating loss.

carolina, set up email correspondence immediately, you can write to the ex-insurance company and any lawyer or peace commissioner this is what they are called in Europe and I am sure they have the equivalent in the states to stamp an affidavit from you stating you were no where near the vehicle. Then you copy this for the police report people, meet them get a copy of what they have and see the insurance people with same, I really feel for you as the paperwork messes that a's can cause are legendary, I am living the nightmare a lot of the time. Look through credit card receipts which put you in places that you could not have been in the vehicle or part of this mess. Best of luck

(((CG)))),

I'm wondering if you could turn the tables a bit. Let them know it was THEIR mistake and THEY need to do the research and rectify it. Seems to me a mistake of this caliber would set them up for a lawsauit.

Hmm...I kind of like Christy's idea....turn the tables on them. They screwed up their information, they should fix it. Now is this accident on your driving record w/DMV or just on the insurance company's paperwork? Just wondering b/c you can obtain your driving record from DMV for just a few dollars. Fax that to the insurance company.

Now if it something recorded incorrectly at DMV...that could be a bit more difficult. But you should be able to contact the courts to find out who the ticket was for, etc. There are also websites you can go to that list these types of things for up to 10 years....the are called PUBLIC RECORDS. Amazing the kinds of things you can dig up on people by using them. I stumbled across them 6 months ago when I was trying to find out where my AH was during a binge. I wanted to know if he was sitting in jail somewhere or gotten any tickets. It will list them there.

Good Luck in your search and straightening it all out.

Sincerely,
QOD

The problem isn't my driving record it's the insurance company's recording of the claim. I called in the claim and they couldn't find a responsible party so they put it as an at fault accident on the claim. So now when I apply for insurance it comes up on my record that I had an insurance claim that was for an accident that was my fault. I already cancelled the old insurance so they really aren't motivated to do anything for me. I'm waiting for a call back from a supervisor at Allstate and trying to figure out how to get a copy of the police report from the arrest from the "special police" in Wilmington. Apparently they are a contracted company that polices the downtown (bar) area. They are difficult to reach and I'm scared of trying to get a report from them when I can't even get a return phone call!
