As you may have already read we are gathering Frequently Asked Questions (aka) FAQs for the MIP Al-Anon Group Members and future members who will find their way here. These questions will pertain to both this message board and the chat room. If you have a question or know of a question thats been frequently asked and answered would you please help us by including them to this post?
An example might be-
Q. How do I know what is acceptable to post on the message board?
A. A copy of the Posting Guidelines can be found at the bottom of a reply or a post you are about to make.
Or
Q. How long are the service positions for the Group Conscience/ Group Business Meetings for before the next rotation?
A. The current Chair, Secretary and Treasurer positions run for six months.

Q: How does this work? (I have seen this question in chat more than once. I think what they are after is explain the difference between open chat and meetings. )
Q: How do I get into chat with nickname?
Q: Do you have actual alanon meetings here?
Q: What do I do? (pertaining to chat....answer...jump in and talk, ask questions, or just say hello and goodbye as people come in and leave..to stay active.)
Q: Will I feel intimidated by a large group at the online meeting?
Q: I don't want to interrupt this chat discussion. (answer: you aren't interrupting; we can carry on more than one conversation at a time in open chat. we will listen to you.)
Q: How do I know this is safe and anonymous?
Q: What are the rules here? (We don't have many rules, but there are guidelines, which mainly are common etiquette. We greet people as they come in during open chat. In meetings we don't interrupt while someone is speaking. )
Q: How do I know I belong here? (If you are a friend or relative of an alchoholic, you will find friends here)
Tea2- Thanks so much for doing this - I really appreciate your service work. I copied these suggestions I had originally posted on the Business Meeting Thread. Hope this is what you are looking for & if you need more info, please let me know.

2. How to find meetings? (on-line & f2f)
3. Recommended Recovery Literature/CAL & how to order CAL/literature? (some members may have non-CAL books they would like to suggest such as Getting Them Sober and Co-Dependent No More, etc. - not sure if that would be allowed - according to our guidelines if this is a "real" Al-Anon site or just a recovery site.)
4. Violence - not sure how to word this one (The Preface in Survival to Recovery book is really awesome about no advice, but suggestions to having that Plan B for protecting you and your children) but I think it might be helpful to have a FAQ for those in violent situations to have encouragement to seek assistance thru proper channels. I believe sometimes these people won't post, but may read the FAQ's & then seek help.
5. Why do I need to have my own program of Recovery? Only in learning to focus on myself, beginning to taking care of myself and allowing the alcoholics in my life the dignity to be responsible for their choices in life, then I was able to live my life with serenity and joy regardless of whether the alcoholics were drinking or not.
These are just a few suggestions that I think would help any newcomer to the site. Again, let me know if I can do anything else to help with this project.

Hi tea, thanks for your service. I just thought that if a 'Glossary of Abbreviations' was to be compiled, perhaps it could include that ((name))=virtual hugs (for those like myself who are PC novices! :)) I was delighted when i realised i was getting hugs.

A server somewhere has your isp number on a spam blockers list, and in order for other network servers to take their bans off you, you need to get taken off this list. When you do that.. Guess what will happen????
