patience pays off

Hi all-
Just wanted to update on how things are going in my world.
I looked back on my profile and saw that I have been a member here since March of 2005-- so much has happened since that time. I know that I could have never gotten thru it all without learning about alanon.

My addict(alcohol and various substances) H of 17 years is going to AA. Daily-- for the past 2 and a half weeks. Tomorrow he is leaving town for a week to visit his sisters and tell them all about his disease and his change of heart. I am amazed. I never believed he would ever make step 1. I am not worried about him leaving. I am happy for him and hope he has a nice visit.

I am thankful for every sober day our family has had. I pray that it continues. I am happy for my A that he is fighting this disease with the help of the program and his HP. I believe that the things I learned in the past 2 years helped the situation. I stayed out of his way. I did what I wanted to (got a better job, went back to school) I spoke the truth but tried not to give unsolicited advise. said a lot of serenity prayers!!

My point is-- to any of you who are newer here is that time is your friend in this process. You need to mind yourself and let go and let God do the rest. I dont believe that this is some "happily ever after story"-- life is too complicated for that. But-- I do see a huge change going on in my H's behavior/beliefs/attitudes-- of course it didn't happen as fast as I would like but I am very grateful none the less.

Jeanne

Aloha Jeanne!!

Thanks for the smile! Every victim of the disease of addiction deserves this program and the miracles that happen as a result of working it. I'm glad you are getting yours.

I don't ever remember hearing, "time is your firend in this process." from someone in the program before and it is so very true. It reminded me of other truths.

Thanks for the gratitude check. (((((hugs)))))

Wonderful post...ty for sharaing.  I understand that time is your friend in the process. I too have been looking back at who I was before alanon..and wow..I am so much better today.  I'm still healing and growing but my life is so much better.  My Ah (sober) has had slips in the time I've been in alanon, but it did not devastate me.  I learned to take care of me.  That is one of the most important concepts I have learned.
Thank you again for you post of esh..wishing you continued growth and healing.
your friend in recovery,
rosie

Thank you so much for that wonderful share insirational..woo hoo...I have been going through a rough time and it has not ended yet BUT with that said i have decided to put more energy into my HP. (if that is the right wording) and I am going to and have started today with a new attitude.... Now I am living like someone moved my cheese (From the book) and I am going to see the beauty my life has to offer me and all the good. I have been tracking my own life and have found that I am more active in life than I thought and when I put me on the top I feel better. So for anyone who may doubt the words and ideas of this wonderful program. I say you need to give it another try. I know we all live the life of a roller coaster but to me that is just life in general. If you learn to adjust your attitude you may just be amazed at the beauty you were missing around you.

Sorry for babbling but you put a smile on my face and in my heart and congrats work it because you are worth it.

(((((((Jeanne))))),

Congrats to hubby. clap.gif I always like hearing stories of recovery. Congrats on your recovery as well. clap.gif I remember those days when I never thought either of us would see recovery. But there was a part of me that never gave up. Neither did the A. I still have to remind myself to Let Go and Let God when it comes to his recovery. The biggest thing I've learned about his sobriety is not to take it for granted. But I also can't obsess about it. Enjoy the sober times. They are awsome! Thanks for the encouragement.

Love and blessings to you and your family.

Live strong,
Karilynn & Pipers Kitty smile.gif
