Risk taking

(((((Everyone)))))

Whether you think you are or not.... if you are here - you are a risk taker.  You took a risk at a better life by reaching out for help in this program.   There are so many trials we go through together, and getting through to the other side is taking a risk.

Could things acturally get worse if I (fill in the blank with: go to a meeting, don't answer that absurd question, don't try to be right, don't try to be thier HP, seperate, divorce, reach out, find a new friend, learn a new skill, marry.....)

Could be... but without taking the risk we never know.  What many of us DO know is that doing the same old thing we have done for years helped us to fullfill step 1.  "... and we admitted our lives had become unmanageable."

I have no idea what I was looking for when I ran across the quote below.  Seemed quite fitting to my day so I thought I would share it with my family.

I am so filled with hope as I read of all the risk takers here.  I am not sure everyone gives themselves credit for what a monumental step it is to: reach out, get help, put plans in place, make these significant changes in your lives.  It is really quite phenominal.  You should all pause and pat yourselves on the back now. smile.gif

Take care of you!

  • To laugh is to risk appearing the fool,

  • To weep is to risk appearing sentimental,

  • To reach out for another is to risk involvement,

  • To expose feelings is to risk exposing true self,

  • To place your ideas, your dreams before the crowd is to risk their loss,

  • To love is to risk not being loved in return,

  • To live is to risk dying,

  • To hope is to risk despair,

  • To try is to risk failure,

  • But risk must be taken, because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.

  • The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, and is nothing.

  • He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot learn, feel, change, grow, love, live.

  • Chained by his certitudes, he is a slave, he has forfeited freedom.

  • Only a person who risks - is free.

thanks for those; I've learned to take quite a few risks thru Al-Anon, but I need to take even more. It's true, only a person who risks is free (and not bound with fear as I once was).

I will pat me on the back!  and here's a "good game" pat for you, too.  (no cupping the hand on that one, though)

(((RT)))

Thanks for this post.  I'm patting myself on the back and actually feeling like its well deserved today.  Reminds me of nothing changes if nothing changes, to change is to risk.

Peace to you,
TM~
