1 week

Yesterday was exactly 1 week that AH has been clean. I know you have to take one day at a time, but Im sooo proud of him. He was suppose to go to a meeting w/ his cousin friday night, but his cousin got home late, so the 3 of us went food shopping instead. Of course, we had to drive through the college area, so a bunch of guys was hanging outside drinking...a friday night..whatcha expect. He mentioned it was very hard for him. I told him that if he doesnt attend meetings on friday nights, we can always go food shopping to get his mind off of it. Yesterday he felt really good. Last night, when he came home from a meeting he mentioned that they mentioned to get into a spirtual side. I was in complete shock when AH suggested we say Grace before every meal for dinner. Wow! I mean....he believes in God, but AH doesnt practice...so this is a BIG step. His cousin mentioned that he should church attend mass w/ me, but since my dad and him still arent on good terms, he cannot do that yet, until he apologize, which I doubt my dad will ever will. I told AH that anything is possible. It took awhile for God to answer my prayers...This past week has been great...no fights..He suggested that I attend NA meeting instead, so I will have to investigate where and when.

Glad your AH has a week clean. That's an awesome start for him.

What about you? What have you done for you this past week? It's tough for us to break the cycle of care taking of others, but it is very good for us to do some things that are good for ourselves.
Attend our own meetings, read literature, visit with a recovery friend, etc.

Hope you are able to do something nice for you.

Peace,
Rita

((((((((DanieH))))),

Congrats on his one week sobriety.  That's a great start.  Please remember that you have to work on your recovery too.  That's so important.  It's great to be loving and supportive.  I can remember in the beginning way before I found Alanon, I was so loving and supportive of hubby that I forgot about me.  When he relapsed I was all messed up.  Didn't have a clue what to do for me. So your recovery is just as important as his.  Perhaps you can find a meeting where they have AA/NA and Alanon together in the same building.  While he attends his, you can attend yours.

Love and blessings to you and your family.

Live strong,
Karilynn & Pipers Kitty

Yeah!! Looks like we are in the same position right now. I'm happy for you. I too am trying everything to keep his mind off of drinking and trying to help him anyway I can. I am going to try to get to an Alanon meeting this week and start helping myself recover. You should too. I am still trying to "get" that whole "take care of you" thing. Ha!!

Keep in mind most meetins won't be upset if you bring your child. They will be happy to see you no matter what.
Be certain before you go to an NA or an AA meeting that you see if it is open or closed. Open meetings are allowed for the general community.
