Writing the lyrics to my life

I've been writing alot lately, after the kids are asleep...

Innocent Dreams

There once was a girl,
Who was hurt and confused,
She fell into love,
Was hurt and abused.

For years she just smiled,
Pulled on her coat,
Kept her head up,
She learned how to cope.

One day she walked out,
She stepped out that door,
But she froze and she told him,
She'd be home by four.

She told him she loved him,
He didn't respond,
It scared her to death,
But he thought he had won.

He took her hopes...
He took her dreams...
He took her dignity...
Her charity...
Her personality.

Her innocent dreams,
They just fell apart,
One fateful night,
With one final fight.

But on that last day,
As she passed through the doorway,
She never looked back,
No, no she never looked back...

She returned to her mom,
Who took both her hands,
Said a quick prayer,
And helped her to stand.

She slowly gained back...
Her trust and her love...
She got back hopes and dreams...
Real fast it seems...
Her perfect qualities.

Years later she met,
A really great guy,
He pulled her so close,
And wiped tears from her eyes.

She'll never forget,
The pain and regret,
But she put herself out there,
And she took that big step.

Out on the grass,
She laid in the sun,
She then changed her mind.........

It wasn't him who had won.

(That was the first one I wrote.)

(This is the second one.)

Wedding Day

It was her weddin day,

And as she sat there thinkin,

She thought about 7 years ago,

She had sat in her room on her birthday,

And watched her dad walk out the door.

They’d just had an argument,

Which wasn’t unusual,

But she couldn’t take it no more,

And on that day she had been sittin and thinking,

About where she would go.

Everyone thought that that she’d be fine,

But the truth is that she wasn’t,

She hid it so well,

She held her head high,

She did what she could to cover.

But on that day,

While she reflected on the past,

She saw that it would never go away,

All things that happened,

She was forced to make sure it wouldn’t stay.

What hurt her the most,

As she sat there that day,

Was that she knew he wasn’t there,

As she walked down that aisle,

He wouldn’t be there,

To stand and lovingly stare.

As the clock hit four,

She knew there were fifteen minutes more,

Until she walked with her mom that day.

So she raised her head up,

Forced herself to stand,

Said to herself,

Even though it was bland…

“You need to know that this is for you daddy,

This is for the man you were when I was young,

I tried to be perfect like you always wanted,

But I needed you to be strong.

I had many sorrows, and I had many cries,

I tried hard to help you, but you hid behind old lies.

What could I have done, to make it go away?

What could I have done, to convince you to say?

I knew I was worth it, I wish you’d seen it too,

I knew I wasn’t perfect, despite efforts to please you.

From now on, I will take it,

            One day at a time,

I’ll think of myself first, and you later,

            When I’m sure that I won’t cry.

I am strong, but will always be, worthless in your eyes,

But luckily, I will not care,

It’s time for those thoughts to die.”

These thoughts of hers were new and good,

They made her feel she was worth it,

She smoothed her dress,

Brought back her smile,

And knew she was ready, to walk down the aisle.

Her mom came to get her,

Tears were quickly cried,

Her daughter was beautiful,

And perfect in her eyes,

They walked to the altar,

Her mother gave her away,

To the man that loved her so much,

They knew he would stay.

Years later this girl was still happy and strong,

She had kids of her own,

That could do no wrong,

This family was happy,

Once and for all,

The girl knew she was worth it,

It took long enough, afterall.

Oh those were sooo cool. I really loved the first one.

I hope you don't mind but I sent them to my daughter. Her son is one now, and she stays away from her ex boyfriend bio father of her son.

These are amazing Mira. I hope you will keep a journal and write more. Even consider publishing them.

I am not kidding. I so related to the first one.

Looking forward to more.

much love and gratitude, debilyn

Thanks so much for sharing them.

One of my daughters, torn between bio father & step dad (both not in recovery) couldn't decide what to do for her wedding - She finally a few days before the wedding asked me if I would walk her down the aisle. It was a great honor.

Thanks again for sharing these with us,
Rita
