20/20

Last night I watched 20/20. It was about the poorest town in America, Camden NJ. The show featured several families of children, their hopes, their dreams, their differences.
One little guy tugged at my heartstrings, a 4 yr. old named Ivan. Homeless, with his Mother and little brother, he looked forward to going to school and learning to read.

On his first day of school a teacher asked him "what do we call the first meal of the day"? "The middle meal of the day"? No answer from Ivan,. He did get the "dinner" question right and answered he sometimes gets collard greens. Ivan had no idea what 3 meals a day were.
When asked what he wanted for Christmas, Ivan said a "home" and some "bread".

Let us count our blessings today and be grateful...and say a little prayer for all the Ivans of the world.

Christy

Thank you for your post.  It puts a lot in perspective.  I know I have so much to be so grateful for.  I will say a prayer for Ivan today.

Christy,

I saw that show too, and it nearly brought tears to my eyes.    What a sad life to live...

Made me thankful for all that I DO have!

(((((Chirsty))))))),

That's a great reminder.  Today I took care of a man in a wheelchair.  He is paralyzed from the waist down.  He had such a positive attitude.  I was glad to help him.  But I was also a little sad.  By the grace of God that could be hubby someday in the future.  When I came home I held him extra tight and said "Thank you God for allowing him to still be walking today."  I am truly blessed to have as much as I do.  I will certainly say an extra prayer for all the Ivans in this world.  In this day and age, in this great country of ours there should be no such thing as a hungry child or person nor a homeless one.  Thanks for sharing the story with us.

Love and blessings to you and your family.

Live strong,
Karilynn & Pipers Kitty
