Courage to Change July 18

Hello MIP!

I'm running a bit late this morning, thanks to some car issues, which makes today's reading in Courage to Change especially fitting.

The author shares that they and many others often come to AlAnon with the philosophy that if something works, it will work even better if we try harder. The author shares that they were soon exhausted and overwhelmed with their approach to AlAnon - making at least ten calls a day and attempting to apply all 12 steps at once.

The slogan "Easy does it" is a reminder that the best progress is often made when we stop pushing so hard and let the process evolve naturally.

Today's Reminder: I take my commitment to recovery seriously, but I can't expect to recover overnight. When I approach my life with an "Easy does it" attitude, I treat myself and the world around me gently and lovingly.

Today's Quote: "When we try to absorb too much too quickly in Al-Anon, we may be discouraged. ... We would be wise to take it slowly, concentrating on one idea at a time."

-------------

A wonderfully fitting reading for me today. I have had the opportunity to practice "Easy does it" in my life the past few weeks. It has been a trying time, with car issues on 3 vehicles, a non-working lawnmower, a broken step at home, finding alcohol around the house again... It seemed that just when I was starting to make progress on something, something else would break or I wouldn't have the right tool, or I would be out of time. Easy does it has really helped. I cannot make things work, I cannot change the store's hours of operation, and I cannot plan when things happen (at least not things that are outside of my control). And so, applying "Easy does it" to my life and my recovery helps me to focus on the next right thing and trust that the rest will take care of itself. (Or at least not go anywhere until the time is right for me to address whatever it is.)

I hope you make today a great day! Lawn mowing is on my agenda for this evening. I was able to get my lawn mower repaired last night, and I'm looking forward to taming the grass that is growing out of control this evening. I hope you make today a great day!

God Morning Skorpi the slogans are my simple "go to" tools of my recovery program. "Easy Does it" reminds me to stop rushing about , live one day at a time focused on myself .
Thank you for your service and remember "Easy Does it" as you move through this AM . That lawn will look beautiful once you finish

Thanks Skorpi and Betty. I love the slogan "Easy Does It" and I use it all the time to remind myself to CHILL OUT! It also reminds me that I cannot force solutions and I need to stop trying. Facing yet another difficult time with my A, I am so grateful to have Alanon to help me everyday, along with HP, MIP, my F2F, my sponsor, etc. I will get through my current situation, stronger and better. Good morning MIP - thank you Skorpi for the daily and your service. Thanks to all above me for your shares and ESH. I had to LOL when I opened the book to this reading...Wednesday is my errand/do things do as I golf in the evening instead of the morning so my mental to-do list was creeping big-time into my meditation time! I kept thinking of something else that I should do today and before you know it, there's no way I can get done all that I was considering - no way!

So - a perfect reading for me, just for today. I am beyond words grateful for this and all the slogans that are 'quick fixes' to a mind running wild. I'd love to say that my mind doesn't 'do that' any more - unfortunately it still does at times. Yet, I am blessed with a program that has all the tools available for me to decide to do/be different.

Happy hump day to one and all - make it a great day! We've had some lovely rain again which I am so happy to see. I am grateful when God does the watering for me - it frees me up to tend to other things. (((Hugs)))

The slogan "Easy does it" is a reminder that the best progress is often made when we stop pushing so hard and let the process evolve naturally.

Good morning, MIP, Skorpi, Betty & Lyne! Thank you for your service, Skorpi.

The statement above seems so perfect for me! I have always lived with the thought of "OK, things are evolving to my liking, but not fast enough. If I just do this, or tweak that, push a little harder here..."

NO. Just NO. This statement helps me to see that there is no need for any of that. Utilize "Easy Does It," and the process will evolve naturally, the way it was meant to! Brilliant! LOL!

I am having to embrace this concept in full today... I was offered a job in my new field... in the place I have been interning! Woot! But it is only part-time hours at minimum wage. Which means I have to keep my current job too. Definitely not what I was hoping for. C2C today is helping me to accept that this is what I have at the moment, and that it will evolve in it's own time - maybe into something I do want!!

Peace today, friends!

Easy does it is a life saver for me as well. I like everything to be done immediately and will push and push until I get the results I think I need. The program is teaching me to slow down, focus on one thing at a time and everything will come together in its own time.

Thanks for your service, Skorpi, and all the ESH, I appreciate all the shares. I'm getting around to better implementing the slogans into my every-day life, but I mostly just don't think of them at the time they would help... I got the idea from someone here on MIP of taking a slogan for a day and concentrating on just trying to use that one slogan. I'm doing that for around a month now, and some days that little piece of paper has really come just at the right day. I suppose with practice the slogans will become more of a part of my thinking. I hope you all have a nice second part of the week!

Aline I just love that little critter in your avatar...so alert and tensing..."okay whats gonna happen next??".

Skorpi there is one other slogan I have received from the program which I love and use often and it is in the closing statement of my meetings.  Most all of us have heard and read it aloud also...."If you keep and open mind, you will find help".  Yessir that one is true.   ((((hugs)))) wink
