Hope

So, I live in Nova Scotia, and usually our winters are fairly harsh, lots of snow and all that good stuff. This year has been mild and everyone up this way is happy about that. Last night, we had a noreaster headed our way, there was supposed to be a lot of snow and rain and high wind. Naturally, it was the one night a week that we (my wife and I) had to go up the street to the local church and open it up for a meeting. Staying at home would have been nice, then we could watch the storm from inside our home. But, you know, if we didn't go, then the church wouldn't get opened and there would be no meeting. Last week there were 4 newcomers. What if there was one last night or just a member who needed a meeting? About 30 minutes prior to us leaving our place, the power went. Since the church is in the neighbourhood, there was a good chance it would have no electricity either. But, we wouldn't know that unless we showed up. So, we headed out. It's normally a 6-minute walk. It took 20 minutes. We eventually arrived and luckily, the church must have been on a different power grid, because the lights were on.

there were 6 people at the meeting, including us. There are usually 50 or 60, so the storm kept a lot of people away. The 110 km/hr wind might have had a lot to do with that. But, a newcomer DID show up and when she shared I got the impression that if the doors had been closed, she wouldn't have tried another meeting. The power in our trailer park didn't get restored until 8 am this morning so it was mighty cold and dark when we got home. But, that little ray of hope we gave the newcomer kept us warm.

Brother I can't ever remember turning away a meeting for any reason considering the only reason is someone in need.  My wife and I have opened, furnished the literature and foldouts and stayed sitting for a minimum of 30 minutes waiting for those like us who have the need.  We do a mini betwixt ourselves before we close up.  That must have been some walk to the meeting.  Great heart and service.   (((hugs))) smile

Great share and so glad that you were willing and able to be of service. I have to agree - when I was new and felt extremely defeated and lost, had they doors been locked, I would probably not return...So glad your power was restored in the AM - snuggling is good for the soul and for warmth!!

That's great...thank you for showing up and for posting this.

You were there for someone...like someone was there for you...that's what we do...we give back.

Thank you.

Yes, Bernie- sometimes one person can make all the difference...

Higher Power takes a hand here... I have sat in one person meetings in time past, more times than I can remember.

Then I remember the sequence of events that bought me into the rooms... each person in the chain made all the difference.

I can be there too... we all should be... aww...
