Spirit:  The writer speaks about generations of alcoholism in his/her family had broken his spirit.  But Alanon has given him a fellowship which allows for healing.  Finding a God of his understanding, could restore him to his true self.  Today he is able to celebrate being alive.

Today's reminder:  Let me make this day a celebration of the spirit.  There is a part of me that retains a childlike sense of curiosity, wonder, enthusiasm, and delight.  I may have lost touch with it, but I know it still exists.  I will set my problems to the side for a little while and appreciate what it means to be vitally alive.

Quote from George Bernard Shaw:  Life is no brief candle to me.  It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.

----------------------------------------------------

This reading reminded me of an audio tape of myself interacting with my son when he was a little boy.  It is embarrassing for me to listen to now, because I sound like a robot .  Now I have a young granddaughter and I am able to play, sing, dance, and appreciate her spontaneous creativity.  I can get involved easily and act like a silly person.  Alanon is largely responsible for this change in spirit.  Now I have one; before it was like I was emotionally dead.  Thank you Alanon, Lyne

Hello Lyne, Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this powerful topic. I appreciate the fact that by using the alanon program,  i too became able to uncover my spirit and begin to feel alive and courageous while trusting in my Higher Power.

Thanks for your service.

Good morning, Lyne! Thank you for this share.

Today's reading puts into perspective something I have been feeling. I used to be filled with wonder at the little things, tree buds, flowers, etc. Living with the disease of alcoholism has all but hidden my sense of wonder, and through the AlAnon program, I am trying to reconnect with that part of myself.

Thanks Lyne for the daily and your service. Thanks to you, Betty and Skorpi for your ESH and shares. This is an awesome concept for me as well today. I have been getting a bit anxious over the upcoming holidays as we've got some typical disease dysfunction hanging around. I've been diligent in my use of tools and am also battling some health issues. It dawned on me reading your shares that a part of me has returned to the 'going thru the motions' mode of life to get by/through the last few days.

What I really love about recovery is I can chose to be/do different when I am ready. I am grateful that we can pause and see what is vs. what is not and adjust accordingly. Thank you all for the gift of your shares - here's to a changed attitude, if just for today!

Thank-you Lyne!

Celebrate being alive!! How I have let that go and became far too serious. And my greatest gift that tries so hard to remind of that I often ignore!
Being with my youngest! Her spirit is truly vivid and bright. I often take for granted how wonderful it feels to be goofy and fun with her! Although at times a touch embarrassing, due to the fact this child has no fliter when in public......but I laugh lots, long, and hard at the things she does and says. I feel alive when I let go of all the seriousiness and travel with her.

Last night was prime example of that.

We went shopping with a good family friend (we call each other our parnter...in crime lol) The three of us needed to use the ladies room when we entered to store. Each of laughing at how badly we needed to go and how frozen we were after walking a short distance in minus 23 degrees Celsius!! Child get into the stall, and yells out "My p is cold!" Like I said no filter! But we laughed and laughed! I had let go!

As we shopped she went over to the holiday dancing stuffed toys and lined up a few she liked, and asked my friend and I to watch the perfomance they were going to perform. While the toys danced and sang....there she was busting out her own moves along with them.

When we were in the check out line, my friend and I had just finished scolding child for something...she turns to the cashier and says "they both aren't my moms, she's my aunt and she's my mom" I thought the cashier was going to need the ladies room herself!!

Every now and then it's good to just to be complete goof balls and have fun.
