6/14/17 ODAT - 12 Steps

If medication could be purchased that promised it would change your entire life for the better by delivering powerful and clear insight into practical and spiritual concerns, wipe out guilt and pain of past events, help you face challenges with confidence and calm, and bring you a lasting sense of serenity, today's page asks, 'Would I take it?'

The cool thing is that these outcomes are available. They are the promises of the 12 Steps of AA/AlAnon, available for free to any who are willing, keep an open mind, and are willing to let go of the emotional burdens weighing us down.

Today's Reminder: I will appoint a time each day to focus on the Steps, one at a time, and see how consistent study brings a change in thinking. This is not as simple as taking a pill, but neither is living without recovery.

The suggested AlAnon Welcome read before meetings: "The Twelve Steps of AA which we try to follow are not easy. At first we may think some of them unnecessary, but if we are honest with ourselves, we will find that they all apply to us..."

*****************

It was several months after I found AlAnon before I thought I could, and was interested in, formerly studying the Steps. It sounded too similar to my upbringing, too formal, and I still wasn't sure if I could find a way to deal with the god issue.

What I did know, however, was that I could not continue living as I had been; something had to change. After seeing the benefits of applying basic principles, I decided to give it a shot. I am so glad that I did.

The Steps have, in fact, changed my life for the better, and in more ways than I could imagine. I didn't even realize at the time how broken I was as a person, how many unhealthy thoughts and processes I was activating in my life every day. AlAnon and the Steps are helping me recognize and address them every day.

So grateful for the wisdom and guidance of the Steps

Good morning Paul, what a great and inspiring reading for today!!.When I first entered the rooms of Al-Anon and heard the 12 steps read,, I felt inspired and a wave of relief did come over me .The steps looked nd sounded like a blueprint out of the  drama and disastr that I was living  and opened a door in into faith and courage.

As the reading points out it is not an easy road and takes time and effort each day. I found that to be true and am so glad that I kept coming back.

Thanks for your service and I hope your day is Blessed

When I found the alanon message board, before I attended any F2F meetings, one of my goals was to find a sponsor and do the steps. I had heard about them for years from other people in a variety of programs. I was curious to see if they could help me dig out of my hole. And that's exactly what happened. I found a wonderful sponsor who took me on the journey, one at a time, 1-12. And over time I have done step 4 several times. I have found immense growth and healing from this process. I think I have respect for the steps, as weird as that may sound. Next week I am chairing my meeting and plan to look at step 6 for June. The steps have required on me "putting them into practice" so-to-speak, but it's all worth it! I'm worth it! Lyne

Thank you Paul for the daily and your service. Thank you Paul, Betty & Lyne for your ESH.

I know that I felt 'me' trying to meditate would be hysterical.....I can't sit still, never could and still struggle to do so. I too could not continue on as I had been doing, relying on self will and running crazily around trying to fix/control everyone. I felt I was about to snap ... and was beaten down and frightened of me/my reactions.

I began with meetings. I knew of the steps and the power of working them....yet I struggled as I was a 'mom' too. How do I let go of my own children? It took me time to embrace the Al-Anon way, and in spite of my background, have more joy and serenity than ever before.

I did learn that I don't have to sit still to hear God speak to me or to pray!! I had FOO thinking in my mind and I had to be taught that my God loves me when I am driving, walking, sleeping, playing, working, etc. I am empowered to stop at any point in my day to have a discussion with my HP and that's great with him if it works for me.

New ideas, great blueprint for life - Al-Anon gave me so much more than I can ever give back. Forever grateful for a new way of life that I get to work in my way, one day at a time!

I took a shot to the ankle Sunday and am not moving too well.....I am having a going away party for a friend tonight who is moving to HI - starting to get sad that she's leaving. Am so looking forward to tomorrow being a do-nothing day!!! (((Hugs))) to one and all!
