Alanon please take me away

Sort of like calgon. Anyway.  My name is Maureen. I started going to Alanon meetings religiously starting around 2005.

It gave the strength and the courage to leave a bad relationship with my twins father.  Around me was hell, financially, etc, but Alanon and it's members were heaven sent!  I worked the steps.  Never was able to find a sponsor, which I did want, but this program changed me.  I let it go.  Thought I didn't need it anymore.

Now I'm married and all my old behaviors are surfacing and I need my serenity back so bad.

Glad to find this board

Hi Maureen Welcome I too left program , thinking I no longer needed the meetings, as I had incorporated all the tools into my thinking and being. Like you, slowly my old destructive attitudes surfaced and crowded out my powerful alanon principles . I discovered that alanon is a "WE" program and that I could not go it alone. I returned to meetings, and my seat was waiting. :) Yours is too.
Please keep coming back there is hope and you are not alone.

Welcome back REEN2U.....   2005 was the year I left the town I was being disfunctional in, and started a new life with Alanon.

Welcome to the board and family REEN2U you never did not need the program.  I also found a pink cloud aspect in program and almost got stuck in it...Thank God the front door was shut and locked for maintenance for a while.  Like others have said I made the program a priority and meetings and sponsor a necessity that I could stay alive long enough to learn.

I went after recovery from many angles and found out just how cunning powerful and baffling our disease is today I understand that only those who are addicted to pain will continue to relax their watchfulness.  Alcoholism is very often termed "cunning, powerful and baffling" and can never be cured only arrested with total abstinence from all affected by it.

I know for me why I have relapsed in thinking, feelings and behaviors even when I thought my recovery was strongest so now I pay attention more closely to my program.

Your nickname is very very similar to the nickname I gave my wife (Maurine) who I met in Al-Anon kinda like being given a surprise when checking in this morning.

Keep coming back cause this does work when we work it.   ((((hugs)))) smile
