,,,group issues... how they work for me...

Our home town no longer has an Alanon group. I had to give the banners away to another group about a year ago.

In the group we were not allowed to read daily readings from 'Hope For Today'.

I questioned this one. I did not want to cause disharmony during a group meeting.

So I asked for it to be discussed at a monthly conscience meeting.

I was told that this was not worth my while because the women in the group would vote against me.

(((David))) - so very, very sorry that your group disbanded. That just made my heart hurt for you as I know I would have a period of sadness/adjustment if that happened here...

In your circumstances, I would ask for it to be discussed and seek to understand. We are allowed to share from any/all Al-Anon approved literature, and have most literature available for purchase/loan (lending library). Our resource set does include HFT - is there a reason anybody has given to you as to why?

Hi David, I think I would have pursued it anyway.  I would have presented my thoughts and called for a vote.   You never know how the group will go and remember HP is in control at Business Meetingsdisbelief

In AA, apparently, there is only one daily reader. In Alanon I started with the blue One Day At A Time, then bought the yellow Courage to Change. Later Hope For Today came along.

There were some members in the group who felt that Hope For Today was a Hazeldine publication.

I was lucky to learn the Steps Traditions and Concepts of Alanon, right from the get go. I don't use the Trads or Concepts much, if at all. where they work for me- it gives me the confidence in what I do and say with inside the rooms.

Progress, not Perfection, within Alanon as a whole. There are bumps and hollows along the way.

This group here is great- it has good ethics, and the common sense within the group is allowed to prevail...smile...

David - there are multiple daily readers for AA as well. AA also focuses on CAL but mention of outside literature is not as enforced - depending upon the group.

What I like best about the group I call home is we really try to talk things over and reason it out.

Make it a great day!

It is gr8 to share our ESH together where ever and when ever... I relish the chance to have relaxed adult to adult conversations... to give our own families a chance of a future. It helps keep my own life in perspective... on a daily basis...

                                                                                                                  smile...thanks, and blessings... aww...

Aloha David...I have to remember that the decisions are of Group Consciousness and thought I don't always like it I do always accept it.  I've founded some of the other meetings because of it...that works also.  ((((hugs)))) smile   Always good to read your ESH

David - I have 2 grandchildren and they came over to play Wednesday! We tried a sleep-over and they are still a bit young - 3 and 1 ... they wanted their mom/dad and their own bed. We shall try again. I personally know of no greater blessing than the laughter and unconditional love of little people....they bring me joy that makes my heart feel as if it will burst.

So glad that you got to spend lovely time with yours!!! Your share put a huge smile on my face as I'll be with them again tomorrow - it's their birthday party for age 3 and age 1!

(((Hugs)))
