Courage to Change Reading 7-23-2016

The C2C reading for July 23 speaks about discovering our sense of humor as we are working the Al-Anon program. It notes that when we first enter program we find it difficult to  smile and could not understand the laughter at meetings. We saw life as  tragic and serious.

When we first learn to laugh at ourselves it is a glorious experience. It tells me that I see myself  and my life in a more realistic way.  We no longer see ourselves as victims filled with self-pity caused by failure  to control life. When we do this we will allow joy to be a part of even a difficult experience.
the quote is from Ethel Barrymore; "you grow up the day you have the first real laugh at yourself."

I found this to be very true. The few years I spent supporting my son and see him sink deeper and deeper into alcoholism,I found using the tools of detachment and prayer. I could see and feel  joy and happiness, even in  the darkest moment. Thanks to Al-Anon and HP. I maintained my sanity and serenity
 Have a great Saturday

Thanks Betty for the reading & the birthday wishes. I am finally have been able to laugh at the silly things that I do. This program has taught me that there is nothing that me & God can't handle. I am so blessed. I definitely need to laugh more & not take myself or life too seriously.

I was so so so serious when I arrived here and did view everything as tragic and so negative. I found humor, laughter and my smile in recovery as well as my confidence and esteem. The disease took so much from me, my person and my spirit and I now realize I am willing to go to any length to keep my inner peace, tranquility and joy.

I am grateful for the blessings in this program and more often than not, the ability to live in the moment. I enjoy so much more of life when I am focused on me and this moment in time vs. the past or the future.

Thank you Betty for your service, the daily and your ESH!

Thanks Kathleen for the ESH and happy, happy Birthday!!!
