Bruising

The other day we were at a family get together at my son and his girlfriends house. Her 83 year old grandmother was there and she asked my ah if he was on coumadin,a blood thinner. Being the first time shes met my ah she doesn't know him. But i wanted to tell her his blood thinner is an excessive amount of busch beer! But i just kinda snickered. It was nice that someone else noticed the bruises he gets on his arms from only a slight bump. He didnt say anything but i don't think he realizes those marks could be from his drinking. Hope life is treating everyone good!

I walk around with many bruises from blood thinners and was not aware that heavy drinking could also cause the same. I guess if they are always falling down that would account for it.

From some things I've read bruising like the bruises my husband gets can be a sign of cirrhosis. It's not the only thing that can cause these marks. As we age our skin gets thinner and we can bruise like this also. I worked with geriatric patients and have seen that happen many times. My ah hasn't fallen lately but just a scratch or bump that we may get leaves him bleeding and all marked up.

My A would bruise a lot right before getting treatment. Her arms were so bruised up that it looked like I beat her. I would get it checked out, if you can convince your A. Hers is definitely from liver failure. She also has bleeding because she can't get her blood to clot. We've incorporated a lot of Vitamin K into her diet, and it's slowly helping. The liver helps with clotting and it is a sign something could be wrong. Either that or iron counts could be low.

Thank you for the chuckle about the blood thinner. Keep your great sense of humor. We need to laugh to balance out the tragedy! Lyne

He won't go to a dr. or hasn't as far as I know. You're ideas are great, never thought about vitamin K. I'll try getting him to eat more food with it in it.

I think humor is the only way I'm somewhat keeping my sanity. I do wish I didn't have to vent,I think people must get tired of the same old stories about him. I hate telling our adult kids what he does but I think in a way I'm preparing them for what's ahead.
